kitchen help (painting cabinets)? I remodeled my kitchen and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with painting their cabinets? I am thinking about painting them with a very little lavender tint because I painted my kitchen with a very light tint of green. It is so light you almost think it is white in the light. Any experience with this situation and what should I do. thank you all thank you all
Painting cabinets question? I'm planning on painting my kitchen cabinets tomorrow and I'm using this wood graining tool. You basically put a light coat of brown down, let it dry, and then put a dark coat on and use this tool and it makes it look like wood grains and knots. If I have like a forest green color on my walls, should I go with lighter browns to do the cabinets? I know too many dark colors make the room seem small, but for resale value what do you suggest? (I was planning on doing a light brown, and then a chocolate color to do the graining with) Mr. Magestic...I have no idea what that means.

Painting Kitchen Cabinets? I'd like to repaint the white kitchen cabinets in my new house. I suspect these have a coat of 50's green underneath several coats of white. I'd like to go with a darker "woodier" color. Should I paint them, or stain them? [I don't want to replace due to insufficient resources - otherwise I'd gut the kitchen] What are the steps to follow in painting or staining? I have read that I need to be stripping the paint, or at minimum, sanding the top coat. But, I realize that I would need to completely strip the paint to stain (and, is staining possible on these types of cabinets)?

Kitchen Cabinets - Painting? My kitchen cabinets are very solid and a nice looking design I think, but they are probably 20 years old. I don't know exactly what these are "painted" with, but it looks like it's some sort of baked on enamel or something. It definitely wasn't brush painted. Anyone have experience with these? what will I need to do to paint them as far as getting them prepped?
Painting kitchen cabinets? I read from another asker, she said she wanted to paint her kitchen cabinets white then put a dark glaze over it to give that expensive look... i was thinking of doing that also... i read about that somewhere else and thaught that would be a better alternative for me to paint my cabinets (bc replacing them is really expensive). Well the look i was trying to do for is a maple or oak look and when i read that article it kind of gave me an idea on how to do that... I was wondering if any one has ever tried it? Did it come out good? What kinds of white paint and glaze should i use? What kind of paint brush? things like that..... Or if anyone has a different idea that i could use, i would also appreciate that.
Painting Kichen Cabinets? I woule like to paint my kitchen cabinets. They currently have a heavy layer of laquer. Is there a primer I can use first before applying the paint, or do I need to strip the cabinets first? Also, is there a certain type of paint I need to use (i.e. oil base)?

Question about painting kitchen cabinets? I want to repaint my kitchen cabinets a cream color. Right now they are varnished and some have a buildup of grease/varnish on them from decades ago. If I scrub them with some TSP-PF cleaner to get grease off, can I just prime them and put paint on top of old varnish? Or is is better for me to strip the old layers off? I do want good results but don't want to have to strip cabinets unless absolutely necessary.

I Want To Refinish Oak Cabinets, To A Lighter Shade, Without Painting Them, But The Home Builder, "Says No"? I just built a new home that has Oak Cabinets through-out. I decided I do not like them, and want to remove this Light Oak Gel Stain from the Oak Wood, and Re-Stain all of them, to a Lighter Color, or perhaps to use a Pickel Finish. My Dilemma: The Builder Said, "It Is To Late", that once Oak is stained with anything, the only thing I can do is to paint over them. If at-all-possible, I do not want to paint my Cabinets, they are just to pretty. If you have a proven technology, please send it on to me. Thank You,

I have laminate cabinets in my kitchen, how would i go about painting them? The previous owner added cheap looking laminate cabinets on one side of my kitchen that clash pretty badly with the other cabinets. I want to paint all my cabinets the same color. I just did an odd job painting kitchen cabinets, and the owner thinks I did a bad job. Can she sue me? She never paid me anything to do it, and I had to buy all my own supplies. She might not let me return to her house to finish the job. I feel like it was a trap. To worsen the situation, she says her husband is a police officer, so that gives her legal advantage to sue me and my parents for money. I don't have any money and a lot of debt and bills actually. Could someone help and point me in the right direction? FYI she hasn't let me finish painting. (I've only started stripping the paint, and she calls me up crying that I destoyed her beautiful kitchen.) I only took this odd job to make ends meet at the end of the month. She wanted to pay me just $8 an hour originally, but I haven't seen any of that money yet, and now she wants me to pay. FYI (everybody) I'm 20 years old. Thanks for all the quick responses! She left a message on my voice mail that says someone must pay for this. She mayh hire a professionial, and she wants to know the names of my parents.
Can you help me with painting kitchen cabinets PLEASE?? I am at the priming stage on dard pine wood cabinets, with a good latex enamel (Behr), and using a good 2 1/2" nylon (as directed) brush. Looks like I will need two coats of primer to cover. My question is about the brush streaks and what is the technique for brushing when I get to the horizontal/vertical slats? Thanks for any info. val

Can anyone give me a ballpark cost of painting kitchen cabinets in the northern NJ area? The cabinets are cherry with a walnut stain; they are in good condition & I like the style. The kitchen light is low due to a nothern exposure. I want to go lighter (maybe a white base with a brown wash) to help lighten the room & update the kitchen. Also the cabinets have alot of wear & tear on them since they are about 25 years old.
Painting maple cabinets. Sanded them, then 5 coats of primer but yellowing shows through???? I sanded them down to the wood but I think the wood is either absorbing the paint or staining the primer and the primer ends up yellowed (looks terrible). Either way, the primer dries with a yellow hugh. Any suggestions on a product or method that will solve this problem? When I don't sand an area down to the wood, then it works fine, but I am hesitant not to sand because I don't want chipping later. Please help! Actually not entirely sure they are maple, could be red oak??
painting and glazing unfinished kitchen cabinets-how do i....? I bought unfinished kitchen cabinets and i am primering, painting, and glazing them. they are to be white with a dark colored glaze. how do i use the glaze to achieve the "border" around the inside of the doors? I was told to treat it like stain...just rub it on and wipe it off, but I am not sure what I'm really doing and the directions on the bottle are pretty much non-existent. just says to follow the directions in the lowes faux how-to guide, and i don't have that. thanks for any detailed help you can give! I have some glaze from lowes. it's in a jug, so it's not going to be sprayed. it's a colored glaze that is supposed to settle into the "crevices" in the edge of the doors...the lady told me to treat it just like stain, but i have practiced with it and it leaves color on the paint also, do i need to wash off the excess?....

What kind of brush can I use when painting white cabinets? I hate brush marks!? The trim is going to be red. Can I seal it with something after to resist scratches and the like?
What tools should I use to get the best finish when painting my cabinets? I know that a sprayer would be preferrable, but I'm not about to buy one for a one-time use. SO, should i use a roller, a foam roller, or just some good brushes? I will be using a white satin kitchen&bath latex-based primer and paint. I'd like the smoothest finish possible....
