Smoke Alarms Questions
Smoke Alarms? I have five smoke alarms in my house connected to my power and they also each have 8 volt battery backup. Randomly all my smoke alarms will go off for about 5 seconds. Sometimes it happens several times a day and some times it will take a couple of weeks before it does it again. I did clean as much dust as I could from the housing and I change the batteries about once a year. The smoke alarms do go off when we accidently burn something in the oven, which means they work. Any Ideas on why they go off when there is no smoke? It is getting quite annoying, especially when they go off like 5 times a day. Thanks in advance.
How many smoke alarms do you have in your home ? I heard the French have no smoke alarms, and that its next to impossible to buy a smoke alarm in France. French have no Health and Safety Executive (or French equivilent) either. Re smoke alarms.. should I have on each floor and in each bedroom ?
Our smoke alarms go off regularly? About once ever few days, every one of our smoke alarms goes off. Its not just chirping like when the batteries are no good, its full on beeping. There is absolutely no smoke, and we changed all the batteries. What causes this?
Do you have smoke alarms fitted in your home? An entire family has been wiped out here, in the early hours of this morning, when their house caught fire. All of them are dead. The cause of the fire is not yet known but all the neighbours are saying that the house did not have any smoke alarms fitted. If you don't have smoke alarms fitted in your home PLEASE get them TODAY and fit them immediately. Please do this for your family's safety. I wanted to put the names of the family here so that they weren't just a news item. There were real people, a lovely family, and if they had had working smoke alarms, they just might have survived this terrible tragedy. Baby James (just a few months old), Clodagh (19 months), Belina (5), Sean (7), Caroline (13), together with their parents Lorraine and Arthur. If you know anyone who doesn't have smoke alarms fitted in their home, please consider buying them some as an early Christmas present.
Smoke Alarms: Is it illegal not to have them? We are renting a house and just realized there are no smoke alarms, and nothing else to warn us if there was a fire. Isn't this illegal???? And what happens when we try to get renter's insurance?? .... We live in Florida...
Are smoke alarms required to be installed by a landlord on their rental properties? If you are renting out housing to people are your properties required to have smoke alarms installed? This would be rental property in Kentucky. I am thetenant and not the landlord.My town house has no smoke alarms installed what so ever and doesnt look like there have ever been any here. He also refuses to fix my furnace which is what I am suppose to heat my home with. It is now about 50 degrees in my house because of no heat.
can you get smoke alarms for the kitchen? you cant use normal smoke alarms in the kitchen as you get a lot of false alarms. i have heard you can get less sensitive ones suitable for the kitchen but as yet i hav`nt found any for sale. any suggestions? it`ll be very handy as i had a bit of a mishap in the kitchen. anybody fancy a piece of cremated chicken?
can anybody tell me about the laws regarding smoke alarms in rental houses .? My daughter is renting a house in Umina NSW and has no working smoke alarms. She has been in the house since January this year. My grand-daughter lives with her and the real estat agent said they would fix them but still nothing has been done. I know there are penalties so can somebody please tell me what they are and I will ring them myself as this is getting beyond a joke. Thankyou all.
replacing smoke alarms? my smoke alarm keeps going off. It happens like every 5-10min and no these are not juss little beeps that its making for me to change the battery. I need to know how to disconnect, so that i can replace my hard wired smoke alarm of course its battery backup. So do i just take the battery out, twist the smoke alarm and just cuz the wires and thats that?
will smoke alarms work if they are upside down? my smoke alarm was too sensitive to my cooking/burning in the kitchen so i took it down and set it in a high place (on top of my secretary desk). I realize now its upside down, and since smoke travels up.. will it still work?
Smoke alarms, photo-electric vs ionisation.? Just a blonde question. If new homes are fitted with photo-electric hard wired alarms. where do they get there power from? Sure there is the battery back up... but that isn't what i'm questioning. Is the power supply part of the main power. or is it a separate black out proof option?
Why do our smoke alarms beep for no reason? there is no cooking going on or any form of smoke in the house, but the smoke detectors beep randomly. Most of the time one or two short beeps. They are electrically operated, not battery.
Will smoking pot in a non-smoking hotel room in Vegas set off the smoke alarms? We reserved a room in a non-smoking hotel figuring that there would be some kind of patio or balcony or something but there isn't. I'm not asking you to do it so keep your opinions on that matter to yourself. And to the guy who thinks I'm a bone head; I have well above average intelligence which is much more then can be said for you. Obviously you need to get out more if you still think smoking pot makes you stupid... they cracked that a while ago. are landlords responsible for smoke alarms in there rental units? i live in minn.i recently asked my sister who pays 995 dollers a month for a dump that has mold growing every where...where her smoke detecters are..she says there ain't any i said what..got up and checked the whole place and sure enough not one...who can i contact about this..also the gas stove has a leak..can smell gas very strong at times..the landlords have been told but do nothing about thes problems
What causes smoke alarms to sound without reason (meaning no smoke/fire)? UPDATE: Thank you everyone. I went to a 24 hour store and bought 9-volt batteries and changed them/cleaned the 'eye' at the same time. It still sounded. BUT I figured out the culprit. It was one of those air fresheners with that one plugs into a circuit in the wall and adds a scented oil to. It was plugged into the wall about 8 feet from the alarm. Not sure if it was getting too hot (did not feel hot) and causes gases from the oil to emit or if the oil in the scented fragrances just emits these gases as part of it's fragrancing function. Whatever the case, I removed it of course and problem solved. Go figure...
