Vinyl flooring turning pink with bubbles.? I had vinyl flooring put in my bathroom on a concrete slab. The contractor put float down to level it(the power type you mix up then spread on the floor). When he put the float down the first time, the float started to bubble up in several spots when drying. So those areas dried with cracks and bubbles. So he scraped it all off and redid the float and it dried ok except for 2 place which he cut out the bubbles and put more float on it. Then he put the vinyl flooring down. After a few months, my vinyl floor has bubbles in several places and some spots are turning it pink (the vinyl's original color is tan). I have to put in a new floor now- what do you think was the problem? The original vinyl that was there before was fine, just worn out.
Can sheet vinyl flooring be PROPERLY installed without adhesive? I recently purchased a home that had been involved in a fire restoration. As part of the restoration, the kitchen & foyer floor was laid w/ new vinyl flooring. However, there is a noticable "buckle" in the vinyl that runs the length of the kitchen floor & is about 10" wide. Same story in the foyer. I also noticed the entire perimeter of the floor was caulked around the baseboards. I decided to pull back the vinyl in the foyer & discovered that there was little to NO adhesive; rather, the new vinyl was attached directly to the old linoleum floor with double sided sticky tape (looks like that clear packing tape)!! I was stunned...all of the other homes that we have installed vinyl in had new plywood subfloors installed & the vinyl laid over that with adhesive. When I contacted the restoration company to complain, they told me it buckled because the house had been vacant & I just needed to walk on it & it would adhere. I think it's substandard work & insurance fraud. Comments?
Installing vinyl flooring over ceramic tile? My house is 55 years old. They had vinyl floring in the bathroom. We wanted to replce the flooring but when we hauled up the vinyl, theres 2inch ceremic tiles underneath. I think the vinyl was glued down because the tiles are a mess. We bought some vinyl flooring to put back down. Whats the best way to do this? We were going to but 1/4 round but now the floors are tile underenath, and the walls are tile as well so we can't nail it in.
Help with laying vinyl flooring? I pulled up my old vinyl kitchen flooring (7 years old) and found that the underlayment is in great shape except that the original vinyl was just glued about 3 inches around the entire perimeter. I scraped the old glue as best as possible and it is almost perfectly level with the rest of the floor. Does it need to be perfectly smooth where it meets the unglued edge or is a slight ridge OK to keep it from showing through the new vinyl flooring? I do have floor "sizing" that I plan to use where there are any nicks or impressions. Should I use the sizing around the edges and taper to the good flooring or am I overdoing this project? I plan to lay new vinyl flooring this wekend. I'd appreciate any good advice. PS: I also tried sanding the old glue to take off any high ridges using 80 paper. Thanks
Bathroom floors: Tiles or vinyl flooring, which is safest? More slippery? Leak less? We have a large bathroom which also serves as a clothes washing room--washer and dryer, bathtub-shower combination, and a toilet. Which is safer/better for the FLOOR: vinyl or tiles? Right now we have vinyl flooring. It is somewhat slippery when wet. What about tiles, are they more slippery? We are on the 3rd floor. Do tiles leak? I'm thinking the cement stuff will eventually leak, especially if the wash machine over flows or something. We never had leaking with the large vinyl floor we now have. Cost is not a concern--lots of sales going on right now! Thanks for any input! The vinyl flooring is two huge sheets of vinyl, not vinyl tiles, connected with one long glued strip.
How to remove vinyl flooring? Hi I have a Kitchen in my house that the previous owner had covered half the floor with carpet, and the other half with Vinyl. (don't ask me why) Now I want to rip both of them out and replace them with ceramic tile floors. I know that I need to install sub flooring first to make the floor think enough for the tile, but would really like to get of the 20 or so year old vinyl. I know I can install the sub floor just on top, but was wondering if there was an easy way to get it out. I started to pull it out, and the first half foot was easy to take out, but after that, it was stuck there pretty good. So what is the easiest way to remove this, without damaging the plywood underneath. Thanks folks
Estimation on Vinyl Flooring? My den area is about 300 square feet and I want to put down vinyl flooring that looks like hardwood floors. I am sick of carpeting but I can't afford to pay for ceramic tile or wood--is vinyl a good option?

Can prefinished hardwood flooring be installed over self-stick vinyl floor tiles (for a 3rd floor bedroom)? Third floor remodel; currently exists a subfloor. Due to cost we're thinking about installing self-stick vinyl floor tiles first, and maybe in about two years install prefinished hardwood floors. We're wondering if we could save the step of pulling up the vinyl floor tiles when we're ready to install the prefinished hardwood flooring.

Ideas for damaged kitchen vinyl flooring? I just brought a new vinyl flooring for my kitchen floor. The no glue needed kind from lowes. A indian slate kind by armstrong. Beautiful! Unfortunatly, within the 2 weeks after installing it on the floor. I was vaccuming the vent in my kitchen with the hose and didnt think about the brush under the vaccum running, no way to turn that off. When I moved my vaccum cleaner. The cleaner brushed up on my floor and burned it and ate some some of the vinyl looks like a large white comb. Any ideas with paints or etc to fix? My husband refuses to cut that piece out cuz it would be a problem later on in that area. Any ideas?
Full Spread Vinyl Flooring? When installing full spread vinyl flooring - how long does the adhesive need to set before positioning the vinyl over it? Question about vinyl flooring? We're soon going to have new vinyl flooring installed. I'd like to know what works best for keeping it clean. I've used mop and bucket, and I've also used Swiffer wet cloths. My problem with both is that the water/cloth gets dirty so fast, and I feel like I'm just spreading the mess over the whole floor. Does anyone have any better ideas? I'm talking day-to-day cleaning, because I know that every now and then it will need to be scrubbed with me on my hands and knees. :) I should also mention that the main things that end up on our floor come from our two bunny cages. I probably don't need to elaborate. Heh. Thanks! :) I usually sweep around the bunny cages, wipe up urine (sorry, but that's part of what has to be cleaned up), and use sanitizing wipes around the cages. I guess my question is more about the high traffic areas, like ahead of the sink, and from the outside door to the dining room entrance.
Will cats urinate on vinyl flooring? I'm having my carpet took up and replaced with vinyl flooring because the odor is such that nothing will work anymore my cat has urinated so much in the carpet.Am I correct in thinking that they won't urinate on flooring? She never has urinated in the kitchen were the vinyl flooring is so I'm putting it in the bedroom, hall and her room. The places I can't afford to replace the carpet I will shut those rooms off when I'm at work.
Cleaning old vinyl flooring? Awhile back I asked what works best for cleaning really old vinyl flooring, and a few people said baby shampoo works really well. My question now is, how do I apply it? Do I mix it in a bucket of water or put it straight onto the floor? Should I let it sit or scrub it right away? Should I use a scrub brush or a cloth? Thanks!! :) I should probably also mention that this house is over 50 years old, so it is very possible that the flooring is the same age...
what about vinyl flooring around fireplace? We plan on replacing the flooring in front of the front door with flagstone (vinyl sheets). I would like to have the area around the fireplace (place that you kneel on to put in the wood) and the painted wall area between that (the kneeling area) and the mantle have the same flagstone vinyl sheets. Does anyone know if this can be done? Or am I just WAY too imagining design on this house?

Just put in new vinyl flooring.... what should I put on to protect? Hi! We just installed vinyl flooring in our kitchen (it's the kind with fiberglass in it that is bendy...a little padded). I was curious what I should seal it with to protect it from getting messed up.... I have two doggies that run in and out. Is there some sort of wax, or clear coat or something you recommend? Thank you! meow It's a little different than normal vinyl.... you can take a piece of it and bend it all up and it doesn't crease... you can take a safety pin and scratch it all up and it just rubs right off....

What can I use to clean lots of human feces from floor before installing vinyl flooring? I'm planning on finishing the bedroom renovations for a ten year old autistic kid who eats the plaster off the walls and smears his feces every night. We tore out the remaining 1/3 of the plaster and lath and installed 5/8 OSB then glued down 4x8 sheets of fiberglass to the walls. Before my five foster sons and I got home, the mom called to say that her son had ripped the fiberglass panels off the wall and tore them up. So we went back the next day and it was no more pretty walls, now it was bullet proof walls. The kid taught us our engineering was inadequate. So we cut more Fiberglas panels but this time, after we glued them in place, we screwed 3 inch molding to the top, 8 inch baseboard (painted white) to the bottom, THEN we installed inch and a half aluminum strips over the seams between panels. We also put beads of caulk under each strip and piece of wood to make them water and poop proof. This weekend my sons and I are going to install a subdued light green vinyl floor over quarter inch under layment then caulk the seams and install quarter round trim on the floor. We are also going to build a low platform covered with vinyl flooring on top and fiberglass on the side as a bed frame to support the vinyl covered detention center grade mattress. Anybody know of a good solution for cleaning human feces prior to installing the underlayment? After work I will take the guys to a Taos gallery opening where we can get a root beer and a burger with grey poop on mustard. Good news, the fiberglas pannels work beautifully; mom says they are amazingly easy to clean. Thank you all for the cleaning informtion. NOTE: This ten-year-old cannot dress himself, cannot feed himself, does not speak. He is HANDICAPPED NOT POSESSED. Religious nuts crawl out of the woodwork like cockroaches.
What kind of scatter rugs will not damage my off white vinyl flooring? I have vinyl flooring in my bathroom that is 3 years old. It was part of a modular home, so I don't know what brand it is, but we chose the upgraded quality of flooring. I bought a non-slip scatter rug. It caused my off white flooring to turn yellow where it laid in less than a year. I threw it away and bought a different non-slip runner. When mopping the floor, I can already see the image of the ridges of the new runner's non-slip material. What kind of rug is safe to use with vinyls, and still not slide all over? Can I do anything about the yellowing? Thanks.
How do you get yellow spots off vinyl flooring? A couple of years ago we put new vinyl flooring down in our kitchen. I had a rug in front of the sink and refrig. I planned on replacing the rugs, however where the rug was there is now a yellow spot. I don't really want to replace the floor again or damage it with harse chemicals. Any suggestions?
How do you get marker off new vinyl flooring? I just bought and installed a new vinyl floor that I bought at Lowes When I purchased it ahead of time they wrote my name on it. Does anyone know how to remove wooden stains from vinyl flooring? I have a vinyl kitchen floor and once it has been washed I leave the door open to help the floor dry. What is the possibility of asbestos being in the vinyl flooring in my 1978 house? We are in the process of remodeling our guest bedroom. When we pulled up the carpet we found vinyl flooring underneath. What is the likelihood of the glue used containing asbestos? We started pulling up one of the tiles, but stopped. I know we can get a piece tested or do it ourselves. Does anyone know where to find a DIY kit?...or is that a bad idea. Thanks!!
Where can I buy concave cove base for use under vinyl flooring to round out the floor to wall juncture? This method of laying vinyl flooring is easier to clean as opposed to the quarter round trim. It is used in California but have not seen it in the South.
I bought a house made in 1948 with wood floors. There is a mushy spot under some vinyl flooring. How to fix? I bought a house made in 1948 with wood floors. There is a mushy spot under some vinyl flooring that is right in fron of where the fridge is. I suspect there was some water damage from the earlier fridge before I bought the place. It's a pier and beam foundation, so I can get into the crawl space below. I looked around a little when installing the water for the ice maker in my new fridge. I did not see any water damage from below. How do I detect what the problem is and how should I go about fixing it?
What type of 12x12 vinyl flooring is best for a bathroom? Also, should we install over existing vinyl? Install over existing vinyl or tear out old vinyl and install new vinyl tile over floor? I seen a few types of vinyl tiles that are self stick. Which 12x12 vinly tiles are the best? 1.Vinyl with no make believe grout lines that are thicker and that look like ceramic. 2.Vinyl with make believe grout lines 3. Vinyl which needs grout lines to be applied Also, should the tiles be places corner to corner or should the tiles corners be placed in the middle position to the next tile when laying them down? I heard this from somewhere because then the tiles would not pop up on the corners.
Sheet vinyl flooring? I have a fairly small bathroom that has old ceramic tile floor. I've come to the conclusion that taking up this old tile is going to be very difficult and result in some major chipping of the subfloor in the process. I'm tempted to just install sheet vinyl over the tile. Can this be done? How do I need to prepare the tile in order to lay the vinyl? Also, there's one spot behind the toilet that really needs some leveling. Is there a good floor leveler that I can trowel down that will adhere to tile? thanks.
