Also, there is a part of HWF allready installed in the kitchen. Is it going to be hard to take it off, or should i leave it and stain it to match maybe the new floor? About how much would a 1, 200 sqft. floor cost me to buy the wood? I heard that bamboo is the best to get. Thank you.

It is now dry as it has been over a year sense it happened, but still has some buckles that need to taken out. can you just nail it and countersink the nail heads or do you need to take it up and replace the bad ones. It's not going to be easy doing that for sure.
hardwood flooring? I am considering hardwood engineered flooring to do it myself. any one have experience that would help me decide. Also, do you have recommendations for suppliers other than Home Depot or Lowes
Hardwood Flooring? If I have no intention of ever sanding and refinishing a floor, is there any disadvantage to going with engineered hardwood. Is there any draw back with opting for floating floor, rather than nail down. I think that the former will reduce the noise level, and is aslo a lot easier to install.
HARDwood FLOORing?!?!!? my father is an avid do-it-yourselfer. we are puting in hardwood floors in our house and he already put one room in and it is pretty good lookin! but he has bad judgement sometimes and there is really old linoleum under the old carpet and he wants to go directly over the linoleum without the felt insulator. this doesnt seem right WHAT DO YOU THINK?!
Hardwood flooring? Can anyone recommend good place to buy hardwood online? We are looking for some exotic verities like brazilian Cherry, Walnut , Amendoim. We live in N. CA and need close to 1500Sft. Thanks in advance
Hardwood Flooring? How much value does it actually add to your home? I know it will make the house sell faster but is it actually worth investing in? Will I get the money back plus more at selling time? I just don't want to spend 10 grand putting them in only to get an additional 3 grand at sell.
Can I make my own hardwood flooring? I am wanting to put hardwood flooring in my kitchen and hallway. However, after pricing some flooring at lowes...it will cost almost $400 to do this. The space needed to be floored is 412 sq ft. However, I can only afford about $200 to do the space... Is there a way that I can make my own hardwood flooring or a place where I can find it cheap enough - like $.50 a sq. ft? I was thinking that if I get nice plywood, and cut it into planks, along with staining them and coating them, I could then glue them onto the floor just like you would regular hardwood floor. This way I could also make the floor match my cabinets... Any websites is greatly appriciated!
Hardwood flooring or carpet? I just found hardwood flooring under my carpet. My carpet needs to be replaced. Should I go with carpet or hardwood floors. It seems that a few planks are buckled or maybe even cracked as there are some weak spots in my floor. Is this hard or expensive to replace? Also what does carpet vs hardwood do to the value of your home? Is refinishing hard if I find worn out places?

engineered hardwood flooring (Pergo type) ? I am looking for information on the advantages of pergo type flooring. We would like to put this type of flooring in our condo. The condo rules say NO hardwood flooring, but these rules were probably written in the 80's. What are the advatages over the traditional type of hardwood flooring? Where can I find some info on the subject? Does anyone have a favorite brand. One that's easier to install than another? Hardwood and tile flooring project. What to do first? I am redoing the tile in my entryway and installing hardwood flooring adjacent to that. Which do I do first? the tile or the hardwood? And why? Ive had conflicting answers from installers. Also, the tile was installed directly onto the floor, no subfloor. Im sure its best to remove it (im dreading that!) and redo it properly onto plywood or any other options??? Thanks for any input.
Advice on hardwood flooring please? I am on a limited budget and while I want my floors to look beautiful, I'd also like to be thrifty. I know nothing about hardwood flooring except that I want real wood. Can I cut costs with substituting wood varieties, grade etc. (I really don't know about wood "grades") I am looking to put down flooring in my bedroom (12X16), my foyer, dining roon (12X10) my kitchen (12X14). I know what stain color I want, though- a Jacobean stain I saw. I love darker colors. I don't want a lot of "knots" in the wood, either. Can anyone give me any advice on how to get nice looking floors that don't look cheap, but don't break me? Thanks a lot!

Your opinion. . . Laminate vs hardwood flooring? I just wanted to know what other people think about laminate wood flooring vs hardwood. Long story short, I've had both and ultimately prefer hardwood floors. Had alot of problems with laminate flooring (scratched, chipped) which meant it had to be torn out and redone in sections before resale; huge headache! Anyways I tried warning my best friend about buying a home with wall-to-wall laminate flooring, but she seems to be a little nieve about it. . . believing everything shes read about how great it "can" be. Anyways, whats your opinion. . . and what would you prefer in your home?
Is parquet hardwood flooring not popular or available anymore? I've been looking online to get some replacement pieces for a chestnut colored hardwood floor and I'm not finding any. I've looked at Home depot and Lowe's, which is where I originally bought the flooring a few years ago and they don't have the chestnut color. The color is a pretty common color. I've only been able to find the light colored parquet flooring. The brand I'm looking for is Bruce. I looked on the Bruce website and can't find it there either. Help!
Do you prefer dark hardwood flooring or a lighter hardwood? Trying to decide the color of hardwood to use for our new home. We are putting hardwood throughout from Kitchen (light cream cabinets with chocolate glaze) dining, and greatroom through the bedrooms. The only exception being the two baths and utility, where we will use tile. I like the hand sculpted dark hardwood, but some have suggested the new "tiger eye" wood flooring. Any other suggestions?
Engineered vs Sold Hardwood Flooring? Which is better, engineered or sold hardwood flooring. Engineered is less expensive and looks the same as solid hardwood floors. Is there any difference?

Cheapest source for Hardwood Flooring or Laminate.? We still haven't decided which we want, pros and cons for both, but either way we're looking for the cheapest price on flooring. Where did you buy your hardwood flooring? Or Laminate? Did they install or did you do it yourself? Thanks in advance. Thanks for everyone's input, lots of good advice.
Can I put hardwood flooring on my screen porch? I'm building a house that will have a screen porch under roof and 2 sides with screening. I have extra tongue and groove flooring from the inside, an exotic hardwood from Bolivia, that I'm considering putting down as decking. The planks are 3/4" thick, 4" wide, and 4' long - my porch has treated 2x8s that are 12" OC - the underside of the decking will not be exposed as the porch has a 4' poured wall around the perimeter and 4' of gravel inside of it. Would this type of flooring work in an outdoor environment that is fairly protected from the weather? As for sealing the decking I thought tongue oil might be the best option. I also thought it might be worthwhile putting 1/2" treated plywood under the decking to give it added support. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and insight!
How should I install new bamboo flooring over existing hardwood? I just posted another question about this but now I have another. I'm about to install bamboo flooring. I'd like to put it over my existing hardwood floor (which has been covered with carpet since long before I owned the house). I just took up the carpet and am prepping the floor. One problem is that the existing floor squeaks, ALL OVER. Does anyone have recommendations for eliminating the squeaks before I install the new stuff? I've run some nails and screws into the joists and they seem to help but it seems like I'll need a ton of them for this. Also, when I install the new stuff, which is tongue and groove, should I install it perpendicular to the existing flooring or parallel? The existing floor is already perpendicular to the floor joists. Thanks for the suggestions.
Vinegar and Oil Recipe for Cleaning Hardwood Flooring? I clean for a lady who has finished, hardwood flooring. She mentioned interest in having me use "oil and vinegar" to clean her floor. I've done a little bit of searching on google and though oil SOAP with vinegar are suggested for oiled instead of finished floors, for finished flooring, just some vinegar (1/2 cup) in a bucket of warm water is suggested - minus the oil. Does anyone out there know anything more about this recipe?
Where is the best place to purchase hardwood flooring that will also install it? I'm wondering where the best place to purchase hardwood flooring is. I would like to buy it someplace that also will do the installation as well as take up my old carpet. Do I trust someone like Lowe's or Home Depot? A furniture store that carries hardwood? I want a good price, but I also want a product that will last and someone putting it in who knows what they are doing. Also, my home is an older home and I have decorated it with a lot of antiques. I want a rustic looking hardwood...nothing real high gloss. Any good websites where I can view different kinds of hardwood? Thanks....=)
Is the grain on hardwood flooring supposed to be consistant throughout the whole house? My dad recently put hardwood flooring in the master bedroom and in one of our other two bedrooms. The grain for the rooms are positioned in a way that when you walk into the room it's parallel with the way you are facing. He left the hallway out when he did the two rooms, I don't know why. Now, he's installing the flooring in the hallway has has the grain running parallel with the hallway. Problem is, the grain in the hallway is now perpendicular to the grain in the rooms. I don't know if I'm right... but to me having the grain running perpendicular is wrong. My dad's argument is that it makes the hallway look larger. Yes, I agree but I don't believe he's doing it right.
When remodeling includes adding walls AND hardwood flooring, Which comes first? I've gutted out part of the house and noticed that whoever built it, built the walls first and then laid out the linolium and carpet.(there wasn't any finished floor material under the old walls) Is it important to do one before the other? I'm using 25 gauge steel studs instead of wood and installing hardwood flooring. which should I do first, the floor or the walls?
Whats the best way to lay hardwood flooring on concrete? I want to take out my carpet and install hardwood in my house. It is built on a slab. I know i have to put down a moisture barrier between the concrete and the flooring. Do i glue the moisture barrier to the concrete then glue the hardwood to the moisture barrier?
Is it difficult in putting down laminate hardwood flooring? My husband and I were comparing the costs of putting down laminate hardwood flooring ourselves. We would like to save some money in doing so but have never attempted in such a task. How hard is it in putting the flooring down? What company offers the best prices per square footage?
Do I *really* need spacers to install my hardwood flooring? I'm installing red oak select hardwood flooring in my kitchen, to continue the flooring from my hallway and dining room. One company recommends, for my regien, 0.4mm spacing per strip using "green" spacers, but would it be okay to just eyeball the strips before nailing them down, just like the pros? Or would it be better to just use the spacers?
