Laminate Flooring Questions

Laminate flooring? Hope someone can help, or offer a suggestion / opinion. At the moment in my flat I have carpet in the lounge and tiling on all of the other floors. I have recently dropped a hot iron on the carpet in the lounge and it has melted a horrible shape into it. I am thinking of claiming on my contents insurance for the carpet and am toying with putting laminate flooring down througout. Except for the kitchen and bathroom. My question for you is - laminate / wood flooring in a flat/appartment, is it a wise thing to do? Or will it make too much noise for my neighbours who share my block of flats? Any thoughts? Has anyone ever lived in a flat/appartment which had wood flooring?

Can plank flooring (laminate) be sanded and restained? A portion of the hardwood floor in our dining room was replaced with laminate planks that don't match. So I have this big rectangular area that's a cherry finish, surrounded by the original oak. I am debating on pulling up the laminate and replacing it with hardwood planks that I can stain to match, or is it possible to sand down the laminate and restain it? I have some experience in sanding wood and staining, but not any with laminate floors. The package that had some leftover pieces in it says it has a polycarbon surface? Also, the laminate planks are 3" wide, whereas the oak planks, the original with the house I believe, a 1950's house, are 2" wide. Do they still make hardwood flooring 2" wide?
laminate flooring...has anyone ever heard of Artisan laminate flooring? We went online to see where to buy laminate flooring and this company came up in los angeles and it is called artisan. Has anyone ever heard of it or know anything on this kind of flooring. we can't find anything on them except for their web site and it does not say who makes artisan flooring.
Laminate flooring Suggestions? I'm fairly certain I want Laminate (wood) flooring for my high traffic area i.e. Living room, kitchen, dinning room. I'm remodeling and have taken up the old carpet and lenoleum (sp?) I've been into all the home improvement stores and have looked at a lot of them. Which is the best? Which brand has the best wear and warranty. Which one seems to be the best value for the buck? I've found a brand and style that I like at Lowes but it seems expensive at $4.37 a square foot and I have to special order it. I don't care for the stock laminate that costs less. Anyone know where the best place (maybe on-line) to look for reliable laminate flooring and good service. I need to cover about 575 square feet. Thanks everyone!
Can self-stick laminate flooring be laid over old laminate flooring? We're laying a new floor in our bathroom and I was wondering if we can lay the new self-stick laminate over the old laminate flooring that's in there or if the old flooring should be torn up and the new flooring laid on top of the wood floor. Thanks!
Laminate Flooring Underlayment? Is this a necessity? Will laminate flooring become damaged over time if an underlayment isn't used? The previous owner of this home installed a wood floor in the living room without an underlayment so if I want to use a flat transition between this floor and the floor I'm going to put in the next room I'll have to leave it out to keep the floors level. If I chose a cheap foam underlayment how thick will it be? Thanks.
Laminate Flooring and Discoloration? My house is four to five years old and has a laminate flooring in the living room and through the dining room where rugs have been placed in both locations. Now the flooring under those rugs have become drastically lighter. Is there any way to reverse this color change or reduce the contrast with the laminate floor? If your answer is to remove the rugs, then how long will it take for the discoloration to fix itself? No really in the family budget to relaminate the whole area, sadly. If there's really no way to fix it then oh well. Thanks to those who answered.
Just a Statement on laminate flooring in kitchens/bathrooms? NO questions here, Just a statement so no one makes any mistakes with this. If you want to install laminate in your kitchen or bathroom DO NOT. Laminate warps with water. If you want wood in your kitchen, I suggest a high quality vinyl that looks just like wood, or real hardwood. Laminate also warps in bathrooms due to the high moisture. If you have a dishwasher, defianatly do not put laminate in your kitchen, the slightest leak of water will wreck your entire floor. I own a flooring business and have seen people make these mistakes for a long time. I really wish others wouldnt do the same, because your flooring may only last you a year in a bathroom, and that gets quite costly after awhile. Kitchens last longer unless you have a dishwasher that leaks suddenly, then you're faced with a new crisis of needing new flooring. Thanks!!!!!
Laminate Flooring - Underlay Issues (Help) !!? Hi, I'm putting down laminate flooring throughout my house and was told i have to use the special laminate underlay. However my house has brand new underlay which was laid just before i moved in. To me they both look very similar. To save me an arm and a leg, could i not just use the new underlay that's down as a backing for the laminate?? All skirtings are off. Underlay goes all the way to the edge. No issue with clearance for doors, etc.
Your opinion. . . Laminate vs hardwood flooring? I just wanted to know what other people think about laminate wood flooring vs hardwood. Long story short, I've had both and ultimately prefer hardwood floors. Had alot of problems with laminate flooring (scratched, chipped) which meant it had to be torn out and redone in sections before resale; huge headache! Anyways I tried warning my best friend about buying a home with wall-to-wall laminate flooring, but she seems to be a little nieve about it. . . believing everything shes read about how great it "can" be. Anyways, whats your opinion. . . and what would you prefer in your home?
Apex Laminate Flooring Review? Has anyone ever installed or had installed the APEX 12mm Laminate flooring that is sold on Floorone.com and Pricefloor.com? I am looking for a 10-12 beveled laminate floor and the price seems very reasonalbe for this brand, but I am unable to find a good information on the flooring. Thanks for your help!
Is putting in laminate wood flooring really as easy as they make it seem? I am moving into my first house next week and I am doing the laminate flooring myself....can anyone tell me if they have done it an how easy or hard it actually was? Also, do you know if I can just put the pad and laminate flooring on top of the kitchen flooring that is already there? Thanks for your help in advance!
1/2" Laminate flooring transitioning to 1/4" tile, help with baseboards.? So I have nice new 1/2" wood laminate flooring adjacent to 1/4" tile. I have left the 1/2" between the two for the t-molding which I am okay with being at a 45 degree angle. My question is two parts: In one 4' entry way I have rounded sheetrock corners, so as the baseboard comes around it is in three pieces, each at 22.5 degrees. The baseboard on the laminate is 1/4" taller than the baseboard on the tile. I am okay with having the top of the three baseboard pieces level, but that leaves a gap under the tile baseboard. Here's the thing, I am also installing quarter-round at the bottom and I can not decide how to notch it (or some other idea) so that it has clean lines along the tile, around the corner and onto the laminate. Part two is similar but an 8' entry way has the tile and laminate meeting half way along a 45 degree wall. The baseboard rides along the laminate and then dangles as it gets over the tile. Help. I could trim a 1/4" off the baseboards, but that would mean all the baseboards that are contiguous which would pretty much be most of the room. I don't understand "just miter the end of the 1/4 round and make a return", but it sounds like an idea. The tile is pre-exisiting and the wood laminate was exactly what we wanted, just a 1/4" too tall.
Laminate Flooring? What is the best way to care for laminate flooring ? What type of mop & what type of cleaner?
lino or tiled laminate flooring? Im having a new kitchen, downstairs toilet. There is also a small room leading off the kitchen with an archway in between. Ive seen tiled laminate flooring which I thought would be great but have been told I may have problems with fitting due to the kitchen floor being higher than the small room and the floor sloping in between the two rooms (any advice on this would be great) Ive also seen vinyl lino - something I wouldnt have considered but there was this really great style similar to the tiled laminate in dark grey/black. Is Lino too cheap looking though? Lino or laminate?
laminate flooring? can i lay laminate flooring on the second floor? i don't like carpet, want to get rid of them and replace it.
Laminate flooring in connecting rooms with different flooring heights? I am thinking about installing laminate floors through the downstairs of my house (livingroom, office and playroom). The level of the living room flooring is approximate 1/4 inch higher than the office and playroom. What should I do about that? Also if I decide to leave the playroom and office carpeted, what kind of transition piece would I purchase?
Laminate Flooring? We installed laminate flooring in our bedrooms a few years ago and we love it so much that we've decided to do our entire home. However... the color that I chose for the bedroom isn't the color that I want in the rest of the house. Are different color 'woods' in different rooms a no-no?
wood laminate flooring? If you had to choose between the snap together wood laminate boards that costs $1.50 or $2 per foot, or the wood flooring that costs $4.50 or $5 something, which would you choose? We're talking something for both the living room (large room) and the kitchen. If you go for the laminate, would you choose the kind with the greenboard backing that is supposed to help in case you get the floor wet? $1.59. Salesman says it has a lifetime guarantee. Or choose the $2 kind that the salesman says is so great, and has a 15 year guarantee, but he also says don't get it wet? I looked at so many products today, I did nothing but confuse myself.
Laminate Flooring? Who makes the best laminate flooring and not overly priced? And is there a site I can purchase it from?
Detailed laminate flooring questions? Ok, I just ordered enough laminate flooring todo the living room and hallway. I also ordered th three in one silver acoustical moisture barrier and some other transitional pieces for around the fireplace and kitchen as recommended by the salesman. I understand the concept that it needs a small expansion gap around the edges (adding 3/4 round next to exisiting molding) but what do I do around the doorway where the whole thing is wood framed and it would not allow the door to close if I cover the gap with molding? Should I use caulk? Also, is there kits I can buy to make the carpet meet the edge of the laminate? I want the carpet from the bedrooms to kind of roll under and meet the laminate in the hall. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I advertised my current carpet on Freecycle and someone is coming to take it all away for use in their home. It made it super easy for me and even better, it can be used again so it's better for the environment.
lAMINATE FLOORING? ANY ONE KNOW ROUGHLY HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO HAVE LAMINATE FLOORING PUY DOWN .MY ROOM IS 21FT LONGBY 12FT WIDE.THANKS
repair laminate flooring warping? living area/kitchen area is covered in laminate wood flooring (i think it is the kind that snaps together). due to some major flooding (about an inch or so of water coming out of the bathroom, over the threshhold and underneath the wood), a small part of the wood floor got water underneath. i used fans on it and a dehumidifier, but the wood has seperated in a few places and sunken down in some places....kind of like a wave. is there any way to level the floor out without replacing the damaged pieces? i rent and i really don't want to forfeit my deposit or spend a lot replacing a floor that isn't mine. screwed. it's what i thought. :(
laminate flooring!? Whats the best way of laying it and sound proofing it? How do you deal with door ways ie im going to be laying it from a hall way into a living room. Thanks in advance.
laminate flooring and coughing? We recently installed Shaw laminate flooring. As soon as I moved back into the house I started coughing and my lungs feel irritated. I moved back out and two days later I'm still coughing. Could this be from the flooring?

Hardwood Floor or laminate flooring I have a boxer dog? I just got a dog and ripped off my carpet. Mow im thinking of hardwood floor. Is it smart to do it my self with the snap on flooring or real hardwood. I know real wood is expensive i dont know if the laminate flooring is just as good
"Indestructable" laminate flooring question? We bought a house with laminate flooring and were told by a "professional" in a "certain flooring department" that laminate floors such as Pergo were "indestructable". Now, not even 6 months into living in our new home, we have a scratch. Does anyone know how we can fix it, hide it, etc. without replacing the whole floor?
Laminate flooring issues? i am moving into a new rented flat and the carpets are ugly, i want to put laminate flooring down, but i don't want to shell out too much for somthing that i might leave behind in a year, so what i want to ask is is there a kind of laminate flooring which i can place down directly over the carpet, and take up, (and if so where can i get it in the uk) and if not where can i buy a cool looking cheap one that i won't mind leaving behind...
Does anyone have laminate flooring and have a baby/ young child?? I am thinking about getting laminate put down as the carpet needs replacing. I prefer wood/laminate flooring to carpet, think it will be easier to clean and have heard it is healthier. The thing is, I have a 9 month old. Will laminate be a problem when she is learning to walk, in terms of falling onto a harder surface than carpet? If anyone has a baby and a hard floor I'd love to know how you've found it. Thanks! xx
Is laminate flooring a wise choice, is it hard to install? I have a downstairs masterbedroom. It is carpeted, but I would Love a hard surface floor instead. Most of the downstairs is tiled, however in my room I dont want tile floor or carpet. Is laminate flooring a good choice? Is it hard to install?
Darlington Oak Laminate Flooring Installation? I bought enough of this cheap laminate flooring from Lowe's to cover my small room. On the inside of the box it shows how shorter boards are placed next to longer boards to give a stepping effect. Is this required for this type of laminate or can they just be placed side by side? Does stepping give the floor added strength? Thanks. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=56323-30029-D1411WG&lpage=none
From carpet to laminate flooring help? i want to replace the old carpet to laminate flooring. can anyone provide me with a step by step guide on how to do this? i have also purchased some underlayment for laminate flooring to go along with the flooring.
Does laminate flooring really require a 2 day acclimation period? We are shopping for laminate. One vendor told us that if you have to let the laminate acclimate for any period of time, then it is not quality flooring. Other guys have told us that that is not true. Does the fact that it has to acclimate speak to its quality?
