Bathroom Lighting Questions

Bathroom Lighting? I would like to replace the vanity light fixture in my bathroom, but am having trouble finding one that mounts on the ceiling. I've looked at all the usual places...Lowe's, Menard's, Home Depot, etc., and online. It has to be ceiling mounted since I don't want to leave a hole to repair in the ceiling or make a new one in the wall. Does anyone know of a good online site where they sell ceiling-mount fixtures? I have found a few, but they are styled more appropriately for a dining area or such, not a bathroom.
Bathroom lighting? i am a little confused..with the zones...i want a ceiling light fitment that will be fitted central..what zone will i need...i hope this makes sense..
Better bathroom lighting?? I currently have 1 tube fluorescent light over the vanity and a ceiling light with three 60 watt compact fluorescent bulbs in them. I hate the lighting in the bathroom. I can't see anything. My friends bathroom has great lighting, I'd like to improve mine.... Two problems I have, one it's a rental, so no remodeling and two there is only 1 outlet, it's on the vanity fixture (so it's just a single not a double wall outlet) so I can't plug something in since I need the outlet for blow dryer/curling iron etc. Are there other types of bulbs or fixture covers that will enhance skin, makeup, details, etc? Thanks mikelyt78, but I did think of that and cleaned them, not much difference. I think they are original to the house which was built in the 60's so the fluorescent one is like that Bakelite plastic and the ceiling one is the beveled glass.
Is there a lighting fixture for the bathroom that can just be plugged in? My girlfriend says the lighting in our bathroom sucks, and I tend to agree. We are in a rental, so doing any kind of electrical work is out of the question. Is there some type of good bathroom lighting that comes with a cord to just plug it in? Perhaps a 3 bulb track lighting type thing? I'm electrically challenged, so any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Where can I find pieces for CRAFT a bathroom lighting? Make a bathroom light myself? Looking to build my own bathroom lighting but cannot fing the backplate, wires, hangers at big stores like Home Depot or Lowes.
Bathroom Lighting - Zone 1? I am looking for some external spot lights for the bathroom that are zone 1 compliant. Anyone know where I can find them as the net is not proving to be too helpful. I am in the UK, thanks.
Bathroom Vanity Lighting Source(s)? On the bathroom remodel, I would like to install the vertical lighting on either side of the medicine cabinet as per numerous lighting designers recommendations. Unfortunately, the available space on either side of the cabinet is limited to no more than 3", which has surprisingly restricted the choices so far to about zero. I would prefer fluorscent lamps with diffusers and brass base units along with electronic ballasts. After too many hours trollling the net and visits to local lighting shops and way too many catalogs, still no luck. Thanks in advance for any suggestions on suppliers to contact for this elusive piece of the remodeling puzzle.
Need brighter lighting for Bathroom. Got any ideas? The bathroom has 3 lightbulbs right above the sink, but the shower and toliet area are dark areas. Also when choosing lighting, should the lighting sconces or whatever turn up with the light going towards the ceiling, or should the globes face downward?
Bathroom lighting - we are building - what? would be the best set-up at the vanity and/or overhead so you can see clearly in the mirror to shave, put on makeup..... Isn't there some sort of configuration? I also can not remember the name for those new bulbs that cast "true" light...u don't look yellow or pink...etc.
Can you install good lighting in a bathroom just using a regular outlet? (no wiring)? It's a tiny bathroom with terrible wiring and I'm not a electrican. I need a easy way to FULLY light the bathroom. It has high ceilings, so I can't get to the top of the room. What can I do?
Any experience with skin flattering bathroom wall color and lighting (the bulbs)? Specific light bulb brands/types and brand colors would be great! The bathroom is basically beige/cream all over. I want to stay away from pinks/roses. lost_dove1, thank you. I will look for those bulbs. tallsweetblondie, I'll test these bulbs out as well.
What are worse? Bathroom lights or florescent lights? I always think I look kinda big in bright lights cuz of my acne red marks, but when I look in a regular mirror with normal room lighting I look good but in bathroom.. its kinda bad.., do you think they're worse then florescent lights at school?

Bathroom light not working!? My bathroom light bulb blew so I took out the bulb, went to Homebase and bought what looks to me the exact same bulb (it's a recessed ceiling light, 240V, 60W). Screwed in the new bulb - no light. Tried both new bulbs to no avail, but both new bulbs work in other lamps and the old bulb doesn't. What am I doing wrong? I looked for circuit breakers and found "sockets" and "lights" so I guess if the switch had tripped all the lights wouldn't work. Please help having baths by candlelight is not fun anymore!!
bathroom light vs. nightlight? I need to have a light on in the bathroom at night so that my daughter can see. She is not tall enough to reach the light switch, and I do not want her climbing on things in the dark. So, wich would be the most energy effecient? Plugging in a nightlight or leaving the bathroom light on? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Bathroom Light Fixture? I have a light fixture over my bathroom sink. It has 3 round lights in a row. Thex are sort of sticking out of a (metal?) box with a wood trim. There is this UGLY gold metal type stuff right behind the bulbs. Is there ANYTHIMG I cando to either cover u p the metal or something??
My bedroom light turns off when i hit the bathroom switch? Whenever i turn on the bathroom light, the bathroom fan, the GFI outlet in the bathroom, and the light in my bedroom will all work, but when i shut the bathroom light off they all go off with it! This happened when i had my grandfather install a new dimmer switch on the bathroom, and he cant remember how he had the wires. Ive put the old switch back on, and but there are still 3 white wires with a marette over them in the back. COuld they have something to do with it ? Help!!

Electrical wiring.... bathroom light.? I live in a property (in the UK) which is about 30 years old and appears to have the original electrical wiring. I have bought a new light fitting for the bathroom and am having problems working out how to get it working safely. The original light when turned on, operated a ventilation fan. Having taken the old light fitting off, I have... 3 reds (already blocked together tucked away) and the following were connected to the old fitting... 4 yellow/green, 4 black (to one side of the bulb), and another 2 reds (into the other side of the bulb)!!! The new light fitting has a Brown, Blue and a Yellow/Green. Anyone got any ideas where it should all go??? I've got one of those screwdrivers which tells you whether wires have power coming from them, on its way round here as I speak...
What are the rules of good lighting in a bathroom? I am renovating my bathroom and doing most of the work myself apart from the electrics as I am not qualified and a tad scarred...My electrician is lovely but has strange ideas. He tells me that 4 downlights are okay for a 6 sq meter ceiling. I am dubious - would at least double that. What are the thumb rules? Is there a book/website explaining how many lights would be best? How would it be best to place them? So may questions... Any help would be appreciated.
Wiring bathroom lights? Contractor finished bathroom remodel. Ceiling fan/light and vanity light are all on same light switch. He said it would cost $150 to add wiring in wall to add switch. Shouldn't this have been done anyways? Existing lights were on same switch but this was a remodel? Now i have two lights and ceiling fan going all the time!
my bathroom light fitting has stopped working?????? my bathroom light went pop other night, i replaced with working bulb but that doesnt seem to be working either? all other lights are working so not fuse. Help!!!
bathroom light flickering? i have a two-bulb bathroom light fixture. the left bulb randomly flickers, sometimes shuts off completely for a couple seconds. i figured it was a loose wire inside the light, but shaking or bumping the light has no effect. it can't be a fault from the switch to the wall, or else both bulbs would be flickering. any takers?
help with changing bathroom light switch? the switch for the light in the bathroom is broken and we want to replace it. we plan to buy one at walmart or home depot, what kind of switch should i look for (what the package says)? in the bathroom, there is a separate switch for the light and one for the fan, but just changing the light one. both are on the same wall plate. any advice is appreciated =D
Can a bathroom light/fan fixture be changed to a normal light fixture? I have a light/fan fixture in my bathroom but whenever it rains it leaks in my bathroom and I am wondering if I change this fixture to a regular light fixture if this will help eliminate the leaks that occur when it rains?
How Do I Keep The Bathroom Light From Shutting Off Automatically? There are two light bulbs in the bathroom -- the sink light and the main light. The main light will click and turn off when I believe it gets hot. I know it has not always been that way.It clicks agian and powers back on after 15 - 20 Min. It just gets really annyoing when you just got out of a hot shower and the light clicks off and its really hard to see while shaving / or fixing hair. The sink light does not do this. Is there a fix? Thanks
Installing a bathroom light fixture over a stud? I recently remodelled my bathroom and will be replacing one light fixture with two directly over the sinks. The problem is that the wall stud is located directly over the center of the sinks... where I want to place the light fixtures. Do they sell a special junction box that can be placed over a stud? My only other options would be to move the fixture to the left/right or install a light in the ceiling over the sink. I'm leaning towards the ceiling fixture if I can't center the wall fixtures. Daniel: I guess I didn't describe it right... I want to place one light fixture over each sink, but the wall studs are centered in the middle of each sink. I now have a cabinet between the two sinks where the one light fixture used to be. Robin: I might go with that idea if the light fixture base is large enough to cover the junction box hole in the wall. I was hoping there was a flat or half junction box that can sit next to a stud.
help with bathroom lights/fitting? I have two ceiling lights in my bathroom with just a bulb hanging from them. I would like to put up shades and bought some but when I took the white bit that holds the bulb holding bit off the ceiling it had lots of wires and was confusing as to how I should wire up the new light. I am a beginner and cannot afford an electrician can anyone advise me please?
Do halogen bathroom lights take a lot of energy compared to compact fluorescent bulbs? I haven't found a bathroom light fixture that I like that takes compact fluorescent bulbs. So far I saw a fixture that takes 2 halogen bulbs with a max of 100 watts that I like. If those bulbs take a lot of energy, I will keep looking.
My stove and bathroom lights shut off together.? Everytime i turn on my stove the bathroom lights and outlet shutoff and the stove does to...after a while they come back on only to do it again and heres the thing they are on separate breakers.
Why would a light bulb explode? One of the 5 bulbs in my bathroom light fixture exploded when we flipped it on The light fixture in our master bathroom holds 6 bulbs. Currently, there are 5 GE brand "Reveal" 40 watt, medium base, blunt shape, decorative bulbs. For some reason, when we turned on the lightswitch tonight, the bulb in the center exploded, scattering glass bulb pieces everywhere.
How do I fix my bathroom light cord? The cord for the bathroom light switch was attached to a small piece of plastic protruding from the ceiling switch fitting. I pulled the cord earlier, the cord came off, and the small bit of plastic broke in half. There is now nothing to attach the string to, so I can only turn the light on and off using step ladders to pull what is left of the little plastic bit. Does anyone know how I can fix this? What can I re-attach the cord to that will switch the light on? Just to clarify - the cord hasn't broken, it is the plastic part that the cord knots onto that has broken, bringing the complete cord down with it. Sounds like a new fitting is my only option?
If I have a lighting fixture above a mirror in a bathroom and what I really want is a fixture on either side.. ...can I simply open the wall, drill holes in the 2x4's, attach recepticles to the 2x4's, and splice two wires off each of the wires of the fixture that's already there and install the new fixtures? Is it that simple? I've installed new lighting fixtures before and have just enough knowledge to make me dangerous!
I can switch my bathroom light off??? i got a pulling string switch in the bathroom and i pull it but nothing happens. only it dims a bit and is still on. iy would be ok, only i got an extracter fan in the bathrrom because i don't have a window in there. it goes on when i switch the light on and it goes off when i switch it off, and i can switch the light off. i tried unscrewing it but it extracter is still on, and it uses lots of electricity!!! what can i do?? how much would an electriction cost if i can't do anything??? that should be i CAN'T switch the light off
How can I fix a dodgy bathroom light switch? I have a pull cord light switch in my bathroom, recently it has decided to only work once a day in the morning. The light will come on when the cord is pulled in the morning but then when I switch it off again it will not work for the rest of the day but will come on again when pulled the next morning! It has been like this for the past 4 days. The cord still pulls and makes the clicking noise like it's working but no light. I have tried changing the bulb to a new one and to lower voltage but it was no help. What do you think the problem could be and how can I fix it? Thank You!
What is causing my bathroom vanity lights and fan not to work? In my master bathroom (attached to master bedroom) I have vanity lights (only lighting in the bathroom), a fan, and one outlet. The fan and the vanity lights are separate units. Last night, there was a thunderstorm and lightning, but given the circumstances, I don't think it's causing my problem. Last night, I turned off my lights and fan, and when I attempted to turn them on again, they did not work. The outlet, which I believe would be connected to the same power source as the lights and fan, does work. I attempted to switch all the circuit breakers on and off to no avail. FYI the circuit breaker is for the entire master bedroom, or at least labeled as so; so I would assume it encompasses the master bathroom as well. My guess would be it should be related to the switch, since it is related only to the lights and fan, and not the sole outlet. Can anybody else think of any other possibilities or suggestions what to do?
I am looking for a shade/valance to cover the lighting strip above the mirror in my bathroom.? I have seen them in day spas and other retail stores but cant find anything in stores or on the net. Any ideas where to get something like this? Thank you !
How much does it cost to replace a bathroom light? The light bulb in my bathroom flashes when switched off and it makes a sizzling noise. An electrician told me that the bulb holder needed replacing or it could be some loose wiring but he cannot fix it for me, he told me that there are regulations for bathroom lights these days, and that to comply, I will need an IP rating light and quoted me £160! Am I being fobbed off? Is this work necessary?
