Interior Design Bedroom Questions
Bedroom interior design? Hi there, I have a rough idea of how I want my bedroom to look like... but I don't know how to convey that to the contractor... any idea? And also, will every contractor knows exactly how to reproduce the same design as seen on magazine, interior books... and do I have to produce any specifications to it such as dimension, length, type of materials since I'm no architect...I know nothing bout it!
Bedroom Interior Design Ideas? I am having the hardest time figuring out what i want in my room. I painted it back in January in a really dark beige color which is not working for me anymore. I need something more relaxing like a peach color or something in the blue side... I have too much furniture and my room looks really crowded and on top of that, I have windows on 3 of the 4 sides of the room... I'm going crazy! Any ideas on where to go or what website to look at that will answer my questions??? i am stressing about it and the whole point on redecorating it is to relax so....it's not working so far! How much should I charge to do interior design for a one bedroom apartment? So heres the deal. I'm not an interior designer but I am a professional artist, and I just did a painting for a client. He asked me to redecorate his entire apartment. Anything I want to do, I can. Now I have no idea how much to charge him (on top of costs). This would be a major undertaking-hiring helpers, cleaners, movers, ect. Should I charge a flat rate or by the hour? And how much? Has anyone recently hired an interior designer? how much did you pay? This has all been really helpful. I'd like to add some details thought. I don't charge hourly for paintings. Just a flat rate, I recently charged $5000 for a painting plus $500 for supplies. This particular fella doesn't know the going rate for interior decorators. I made a comment about his apartment and he said he wants me to decorate it and I said I would think about it. I mostly want to hear that it's okay to charge 5000 to 7000 plus materials to completely decorate his apartment. I'm talking everything from the kitchen to the bathroom. Steam cleaning the carpets, painting the walls and trim. new dishes. maybe even new clothes. Thanks for the answers so far everyone!

interior design project-inspiration needed? I'm taking an interior design class. our main project is a bedroom remodel. We have absolutly NO limits. I was planning on enlarging the room and adding a deck/porch. I plan on using colors like pale yellows and pretty greens. Does anyone have any links that could help me with flooring selections/paint colors/furniture/anything? Also, if anyone has ANY ideas then please offer them. It can be anything, so be creative!! I am doing my own homework. Asking opinions of what looks nice to others is pretty important in interior designing if you ask me. I'm just looking for someone to say something that will spark some idea for me, as I cannot decide on a theme.
Indian-Style Interior Design. Any ideas? I am designing a master bedroom for a house I'm moving into next year and I am looking for ideas. I am thinking I want an Indian theme, and since I am visiting India this summer, I want to get the main idea sketched out before I leave (So i can buy fabrics and stuff there) Does anyone have any good pictures of Indian-designed rooms, or any cool ideas? Anyone know of a company that sells rolling interior doors, similar to barn doors, for room such as a bedroom? My condo features unfinshed walls and several half walls. I'd like to add a door to my bedroom to keep out pets and add some privacy. I have seen some condos that half special barn or warehouse doors the roll on a large exterior wheel/roller. I cannot use a hanging door on a track nor a pocket door. I'd like the door to work on a series of rollers on each side of the threshold. I want the door to roll from right to left. Very similar to sliding doors yet I want rollers and no installed track. Hard to explain, yet I've seen it once, but I have found very little on the net concerning where to get the door and specialty hardware. Surely some sort of specialty interior design company makes this product. Any website, contact info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Should I go back to school to teach or do interior design? I graduated from college in May 2005 and received a BA in Art History. For the past year I have been working in sales/marketing. I may be looking into going back to school. I've considered becoming three things: 1) A health teacher (I like to answer the teenagers questions online about issues with boyfriends/sex/drugs etc.) 2) An Art teacher (one of the reasons that I was an Art History major) or 3) an Interior designer (another reason that I was an A.Hist. major) The thing is, i'm always sketching floorplans and looking through magazines and re-arranging my bedroom etc... How do I become a teacher or an interior designer if I already have a degree? *I would eventually like to have children and want to either work for myself or have a flexible schedule.

I need interior design advice/direction to make my living area workable. Does Tara Dennis do home visits?gmt? Lounge 6mx3.2m with central arch, adjoins kitchen 5mx3.2m which adjoins family room 7m x 4m via a central opening. The two openings form a thoroughfare through the kitchen. I want them to work bette/link together, remove clutter, with some design and colour advice and furniture positioning suggestions. Lounges faces due west, family room faces due east and the kitchen has no window except for a small opening into the family room It is dark and the only other light it gets is from the two openings.The passage to the bedrooms runs off the kitchen and the laundry backs on to it also. Do I open up the wall between the kitchen and family room, move the sink and put a window in the south wall? or do I completely relocate the kitchen to the other side of the room and maybe incorporate the laundry area in this process? I find when family visit the men sit in the lounge area watching TV, women in the family room with children running back and forth and spreading toys etc. GMT
Need Spanish Translation for House Interior Design.? Downstairs: Living room with all the furnishings. One easy chair and two large sofas. A fireplace for when it gets cold during the winter. Dining room with a large dining table and many chairs for when we have dinner parties. A chandelier would make the room look more elegant. Kitchen with expensive appliances. Large refrigerator for all the food. Dishwasher because I hate to do the dishes. Stove and oven to cook the meals. There would be one bathroom downstairs with only a toilet and sink. Upstairs: One master bedroom and five regular bedrooms. The master bedroom would have a king size bed and large walk-in closet for all the clothes. Each of the other bedrooms would have queen size beds with smaller closets. The master bedroom would have its own bathroom with an large shower, toilet, and sink. There would be two other bathrooms upstairs with regular showers, toilets, and sinks.
Interior design wall decor centering question :)? In my bedroom, I have the bed almost centered on the wall but more to the right a little bit (to allow for a bookcase which I have in the corner to fit). I'm hanging one wall decor piece (a wrought iron candelabra) on the wall with a wall sconce on each side of it (so 3 pieces on the wall). My question is: Do I center these with the my bed, or with the wall? Thanks. :)
Do schools of interior design have students do practicums? I am not color blind,but I have no sense of color. I can't pull together colors or accent pieces for my home. I have a beautiful historic home complete with oversized living and dining rooms, butler's pantry and third floor servant's quarters with living room, bedroom and full bath. I don't have much money, but worse than that, I have no "eye" for decorating. Where do I start? I'd like to hear from someone who has worked with a student designer.
please help! anyone good with interior design!? i'm decorating a 13 year olds bedroom. the walls are blue but i really want to have different colors so i can put alot of contrasting decorations in. i really really need a inexpensive area rug. i am absolutly in love with the ones on pbteen.com (pottery barn teen) but they are very expensive. i tried all the sites like kmart, walmart, target, jcpenney but they all seem to either have very adult or very childish rugs. i need one for a teenager with 17 year old taste thats not expensive. any ideas?
Do you think zen style interior is recommended for a master bedroom? I'm designing a master bedroom, the problem is, it is lack of basic furniture pieces and It must have an inexpensive yet stylish furnishings, I used zen style to bring forth an ambiance of nature and to have an airy and a well thought design for the couple,I used greens and neutral colors that would make a scenic view of nature... low level furnishings was done. do you think zen style suites well?
How to create a Interior decorating/design storyboard? I am working on a storyboard for my decorating class. Can anyone help me?? I can't find a thing on line! I have to have 1) a floor plan of a bedroom 2) co-responding fabrics that I would use and 3) a legend. Here's my problems: 1) It is a 1D drawing of the room with the use of stencils for the bed, lamps, (the actual furnature only) etc. How do I show the corresponding fabric I would use for the pillows since I am not supposed to "draw" them onto the actual floor plan of the bedroom? 2) I have only ever done square, simple rooms before, so showing the wall measurements was easy...now I have a balcony, on-suite and walk-in closet? All I have to do is a bed-room..but I wanted to do more. So, do I show the dimensions of everything? If so how? If not, how do I show the dimensions of the bedroom without making the floor plan look too messy?! Sorry for such a long question, but I knew if anyone could help, it would be you guys! Tips for redecorating my bedroom? I would like to redecorate my bedroom this week while the hubby (A fussy metrosexual with an interior design degree and who has redone the whole house in italian modern) is gone. I figure I should get atleast one room in my style! I love the glamour of the 1920's, flappers and old hollywood and would like to do my room in this theme. http://www.secondlooks.net/Gallery4/Hobbies/images/PA120020ee.jpg I have a vanity that looks a bit like this, but mine is walnut I have a Black brass bed with deep red taffeta bedding and gold throw pillows, I also have some misc things like a vintage radio, vintage 1920's dresses, old shawls etc. I have a cool lamp and chair, both with leopard print. So that is what I have to work with. What prints, acsessories, misc furniture, etc etc etc could you suggest. I guess what I need an nice atmosphere to the room, so any suggestions, would be appreciated!! I was thinking of using a movie like Chicago as an inspiration. My favorite colors to decorate are golds, deep red, rich blue, white, black. I love the sleekness art Deco, some Victorian is nice, but too much is over kill for me.
bedroom ideas? We just built a second story addition to our home, which will be the bedrooms.there is no drywall there yet until we design something. does anyone know where i can get ideas ? we are looking for a contemporary look. ceiling designs with lots of lighting. something very unique. Career change to interior decorator? I am an apartment manager, who wants to follow a dream of interior decorating and/or designing. I am almost 30 and to date I have redecorated apartment home models, a couple of spaces for my friends, and my highly complimented own home. This past weekend I won an award from the chicagoland apartment associtation for best 2 bedroom model done my a non certified designer. Which was a huge deal to me. However I want to do this professionally, on my own, and need to know where to begin. I need to still work full time while making this transition, so quitting my cuurent career is not an option. Also, what can I expect salary wise in this field? I am most interested in home staging and models for builders.

I am looking for an inexpensive home design for a small and narrow lot 28x72. I want a simple lean to shape.? Most homes are too wide and the modernist homes are nice but too expensive. I only need windows on the front and the back. I do not need a garage, but I do need a drive. I have front and back street access and it needs to be built on piers. I would like 2 bedrooms with 1 or 2 baths and an open floor plan with the living and kitchen areas. It should be 1,000 sq ft or under and a very simple inexpensive design. I feel like I have few options because I want to keep the cost down and no one makes money that way. I only need maybe 2 interior doors at the most and I would like my closets to have rolling barn style panels. I do not want a pitched roof but I do want a lean to style roof, so the living room seems vaulted but I can put the duct work above the ceiling in the bedrooms. I want the bedroom and baths on one side, with a porch and living space on the otherside possibly wrapping around the back. It does not seem that this should be so complicated. Help where can I get a design cheap.

How do you get your husband to agree on decorating your way? I'm into interior design and I desperately want to redo our bedroom and something more pastel. I want to do a lavender and yellow floral theme, since those were our wedding colors and also my two favortie colors but he said no! I was so disappointed about that. I don't see what the big deal is. I was thinking about doing it anyway when he goes out of town on his business trip at the end of the month, and then there would be nothing he could do about it.
