Landscape Design Questions
Any recomendations for landscape design software?? I'm looking to buy Landscape Design software for DIY projects. I'm reading good things about Better Homes and Garden Home Design Suite and Punch! softwares. Anyone used them or have any recommendations for either, both, or something else?
Looking for teardrop template for landscape design around tree trunk.? I am a minor landscape designer looking to make my work easier. I am in need of a template that would make it easier to design around trees. Some people use basic cirlce designs others want kidney bean designs and there are those that would like a teardrop around their trees. Usually I would have to take a strand of rope and lay it out in whatever design is desired. I would like to have templates created so that all I would have to do is place them around the tree, trace it out, and then dig.
I need to design the landscape of a small back yard. Any tips? I see a lot of books on designing large gardens, but we live in California and have a very small back yard that we'd like to liven up (right now it's just mulch). Is it worth hiring a contractor? Is there good landscape design software we could use to help do it on our own?
Things to keep in mind for landscape design? I am currently trying plan a design for my backyard landscape, does anyone know of anythings I should keep in mind? I live in zone 10b and have dogs and know that I want something relatively low maintainance. What are things that are more on the actual design side that I should think about?
Have you heard that keyline landscape design can reverse global warming fast? Have you heard that keyline landscape design can reverse global warming, improve soil fertility fast, reduce and heal erosion, let run-off water slowly percolate into watertables instead of flooding off to the ocean, and catch water for free gravity fed irrigation(among other things like a logical land layout, fire protection, emphasis on balanced ecology eg. plants, trees, pasture..,.)? Also, it is something anyone could apply/do if they desire, and without needing government interaction or programs..
What tools do I need to know to start a landscape and gardening design business? Years ago I worked in a amateur way in gardening maintenance. I realice that I liked it a lot but I don't have the specific knoledge and experience to start a landscape and gardening design business. I have the feeling that I have the creativity for doing this but of course this is not all. Could someone help me telling me the kind of tools that I would require to start this gradually? Maybe I would requiere to know some landscape design software, etc. In short, what kind of tools would be necesary to have and learn. Maybe the thing would be more complex like doing an Business plan? I'll thank any advice. Chris

Landscape design help? I'm redoing the landscaping on each side of my house (about 3 feet wide - runs the length of the house). One side gets full son, the other side is predominantly shady. Any ideas for flowering perennials that do well in the shade (besides hostas)? Also, on the sun side of the house I'm doing day lillies and a blue flowering ground cover (forget the name). Any suggestions for some kind of flowering bush to put at the corner of the house? Something that doesn't get too big, and I don't care if it's evergreen or not. Maybe azalea or something? Thanks in advance! LOL - son = sun. Whoops!
Landscape Design - Old School House Ideas? Ok, so where I work, the building is an old school house, and my boss owns the building, and I was trying to come up with suggestions for this problem... There were originally four sets of large cement stairs, a set at either end and two close together in the middle, at one point the building was turned into a church and they closed off one of the doors in the middle section, as it wasnt necessary, bricked up pretty well, you wouldnt know there was a door there, except for the stairs remain outside and to remove them would sort of unbalance the symmetry that it has... in keeping with the school house theme/restoration what is something large maybe somehow utilizing the stairs if possible or if not thats fine, that could balance out the exterior? anything that an old school house might have had? there is a bell tower on the building she is restoring so a bell suggestion wont work The doors are seperate from each other, each has its own set of stairs, I would say maybe 5 ft between the two doors/sets of stairs [ ]_____X__[ ]_____[ ] kinda like that

garden center business vs. landscape design business? I am thinking about starting an organic garden center business. I do not have any experience with retail. Another option that I am considering is to become a landscape designer. It seems like going the landscape designer route would be less risky than entering the retail world, but I have to say I am drawn to the garden center business. Any ideas, advice? What should I consider before making my decision? Any advice would be helpful and appreciated.

I am planning on taking classes on landscape design.
