Medicine Cabinets Questions
Do those child safety locks work on bathroom medicine cabinets? I see that they have them at Wally world and wanted to know if anyone has tried them on anything besides cabinet doors and drawers in kitchens. I would like to use them on my bathroom medicine cabinet to lock medicines and other things my 2 year old can reach now. Any advice is appreciated.
Why do old people smell like medicine cabinets and ben gay? I'm really not being a jerk here, I honestly don't understand that. Every elderly person I know has that scent about them and its not like they are using the product, it's just an overall scent. Why is that? I have nothing against elderly people in the least. I work in a nursing home so I was just curious. I have the most respect for that generation.
Where to find a narrow inset/recessed medicine cabinet? I have an older home and need to replace the existing inset medicine cabinet. I need a cabinet where the rough-in width is 12.25 inches or less. It seems all newer cabinets are 13 or 14 inches wide. Does anyone know where to find a narrow cabinet? I have already checked Home Depot, Ikea, Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn; they are all too wide. Thanks.
Snooping in the Medicine Cabinet- Weird things found? So do we all snoop in people's medicine cabinets? Rude, isn't it. Remember the Sienfeld where he found fungus cream, it turned out to be for her cat. I have found that most men don't have much in their bathrooms, but I've found strange suppliments, sunless tanner, viagra, ex-girlfriend's stuff, and jock itch cream. What is the funniest or strangest item you've seen in someones bathroom?
Can a veneer medicine cabinet be sanded down and stained darker? I have an oak veneer medicine cabinet mounted/thin set to the tile on my bathroom wall. I recently replaced the existing vanity with a newer walnut stained one. Can the medicine cabinet be sanded down and gel stained to the darker walnut color or will I be forced to paint? I can not remove the medicine cabinet since its cemented to the tile behind it without having to redo the entire wall which I am not ready to take on. Thoughts, suggestions please?
Baby Medicine Cabinet? Am going to be a new mom soon, what should I have handy in my medicine cabinet, I dont know tylenol motrin what, the more suggestions helpful.
Terrible Smell behind medicine cabinet...? I live in a dorm that has a sink in each room. Ours has a medicine cabinet that fits into a hole in the wall and behind the hole is open area, for like piping and stuff. The piping is brand new this year, but there is a horrible moldy like smell coming from back there. I had a maintenance person look at it about a month ago, and he couldn't smell it, but I could. I have no idea what it is and it is getting really really bad. I try spaying lysol in the cabinet, but it wears off in 10 minutes and leaves the terrible smell there.
Question about installing an in-wall medicine cabinet in the bathroom. Can anyone help? Our home was built in the 70's. The original medicine cabinet was mounted flat on the wall, and that's the way it is today. I want to cut a hole in the wall and install a sunken, or in-wall medicine cabinet. The problem is that there will be at least one, and possibly two, studs to contend with. How do install the cabinet without compromising the integrity of the wall by simply cutting through the studs? Is there a special bracket or something?

Is it possible to use a recessed medicine cabinet in a house constructed at the turn of the century? I live in a 1907 home. The walls are the old wood slat and plaster type (not to mention there is NO insulation). Anyway, I'd like to use a recessed medicine cabinet in the home's only bathroom; it's small and the wall mount cabinet tends to "fill" the limited space over the sink. Would I be opening a can of worms to try and install a recessed cabinet? CAN one even be installed with this type of construction? I wonder if the walls are too thin or if they could handle it? I even wonder if that type of installation would worsen the lack of insulation? Thanks!
How to seal a crack between wall and rec. medicine cabinet? Hi, Recently I wanted to replace an old recessed medicine cabinet and thought all I needed to do was pull out the old one and place the new one into the pre-existing hole in the wall. While the new cabinet fits, there is about < 1/2 inch space between the edge of the space in the wall and the side of the cabinet. How can I fill in the crack or at least cover it up? Thanks!
What are the best over the counter medicine to keep in my medicine cabinet? I am a mother of two teens and a 21 year old all living at home. I also have a 19 month old grandson. What medicines should I keep stocked in my medicine cabinet? I have small first aid kit.... so that answer is irrelvant to my question. Thanks in advance for your answers. I always kept my kids on vitamins so they were never sick growing up. Now that they are older they seem to get sick. They are always babies again when they are sick too. Over the counter meds also changed so much since my kids were small, so I have to ask.
DNA EXPERTS ONLY!! Kitchen Cabinet/Medicine Cabinet DNA extraction? Ok, Ok. It's Friday night and I just did a DNA extraction in my own kitchen. I'm a true NERD! I dissolved some sea salt to about saturation in a glass. I dry brushed my teeth and tongue and cheeks. I took a small mouthful of the salt water, and spit it into another glass. I mixed two squirts of soap and some water from the faucet. I did a 50% mix of soap water with the cell/salt mix. I swirled for a couple of minutes. I added 3 times alcohol to the soap/salt mix and gently swirled. I see what I think is DNA (looks like a big wad of phlegm). Is that DNA? I'm used to commercial kits where cell debris is spun out as a pellet. Did I do this right? Thanks for laughing with me!
best cold medicine for 3 year old?!? My daughter woke up with a runny nose and head congestion... I was just curious what everyone finds to be the most effective cold medicine for their kids and why? Right now we had triaminic in the medicine cabinet, but shortly I'll be making a trip to the grocery store and will be getting something better for her... hence why I'm curious as to what everyone finds works the best! Thanks! Thanks everyone. She sure does have a fever (100.3), and said her "brain hurts", so I gave her some motrin along with the crappy triaminic to hold her over. She's showing no signs of anything other than a nasty headcold (no cough or stomach problems), so thanks to everyones responses I know what to get her. oh yeah, thankfully the triaminic didn't wire her all up, she actually went right back to bed and has been out cold for almost 2 hours now!
