Roofing Shingles Questions
What are shingles? (not the roofing kind, the disease)? My sisters friend came over to spend the night and she had 4 or 5 large bumps on her back and complained that they itched. She went to the doctor today and my sister called me and said her friend had Shingles....what are they? The last time I heard about Shingles was on Oregon Trail in elem school! (along with polio, etc) How do you get Shingles? Is it contagious? I'm really worried that my sister shouldn't stay there overnight because I don't want her to catch it too.... How do you cure it?
Roofing... I have a house that is 14 years young. The shingles are showing signs of moss.? The house was constructed new and I have shingles that have a 20 year warranty. A few have blown off in winds of 40-50 mph and I have had them replaced. The shingles show signs of wear. How does one find out if a "warranty" applies. When talking with the installing company I get "you know the shingles are old". Yeah, so what, they were sold and designed to last for 20 years and they are showing severe wear and I'm afraid a leak will develop and I will have worse problems. It seems contacting installers is futile...they all want to sell you a new roof job. Should I be able to contact the shingle manufacturer and have their representative look at it?
Question about roof shingles. When places like Home Depot...? When places like Home Depot have their advertisement circulars and they advertise roof shingles, it will say something like $15.99 and then have a pic of a shingle, now is that for a box of shingles or is that per shingle? And if it is a box, usually, how many shingles come to a box? thank You
The shingles on the roof wrap around the edge!? I'm seeing more and more of this. The roof shingles wrap around the gutters as if they were gards. But I don't see how the gutters can still control the flow of water. Why do people get shingles like this? Is it good?
i think roof shingles messed up my skin.? ok i was throwing away roof shingles and after, my skin has really been itchy and i have all these bumps on my arms. someone told me there is a material in the shingles made of small glass or something and that they probably got onto my skin. HOW DO I GET RID OF THEM!! IT IS SO ITCHY!
Multi-colored Roof Shingles? I have seen a couple of houses with asphalt roof shingles that have multiple (2 or 3) different colors at random intervals. (A few reds mixed with green and tan) I really like the look of them and am wondering if shingles are sold like this or have they used different batches to achieve that effect?
Can you paint roof shingles? My roof has hard water stains, from a leaky swamp cooler. I fixed the cooler problem but now I have hard water stains on my roof. I am not sure whether to paint them or try to clean the hard water stains. I have a power washer but I am afraid it will damage the roof shingles. If I go with the paint what type should I use? Would CLR work better? They are made of composite...any suggestions?thanx in advance

Wood under roof shingles? What is the standard type of wood layed on trusses underneath roof shingles? What other factors to include in reroofing a house?
Where can I purchase roofing shingle tabs by the truck load? I live in east Texas and have a driveway off the main road that is over one half mile long and about fifteen feet wide. I want to lay down roofing shingle tabs instead of paving the drive with asphalt or pouring concrete but I am having a difficult time finding them. Where can I purchase these by the truckload and have them delivered?
