Metal Roofing? I live in Florida and we are considering putting a metal roof instead of tile due to all the huricane. Does anyone have any ideas on the cost and pro and cons of a metal roof vs the tile roof.
Metal Roofing vs. Shingle? Does anyone know the pros and cons for metal roofing vs. shingles? We have heard that shingles add more value to your home, but I know that metal lasts longer. Is it true that shingles add more value? I do not mind the sound of rain on metal roofs. lol
What is the best way to put on metal roofing? Is it best to put metal roofing on over old asbestos shingles(providing it's less than three layers) or to tear off all the old shingles first? And does it hurt anything to tear off the shingles on one side and leave them on the other side and put the metal roof on?
Is there any reason you should not cut metal roofing with a saw rather that snips? We have a lot of roofing to cut to fit and have been advised against cutting it with a circular saw with a metal cutting blade. Instead we were told to use nippers as sawing it makes it rust. We have done this in the past and have never had a problem, however this is for an equestrian facility that will have high visiblity with the outside public and we want to put our best foot forward. Any suggestions as buying a high-quality set of powered nippers is expensive versus buying metal cutting blades.
anyone with metal roofing trouble ? we had a metal roof instaled 7 years ago. every fall we get up there and tighten the screws. they have backed out 1/4 to a half inch !! we do this at least once a year. we have a temp spread here of 25 degrees f. ( sometimes colder) and up to 110 in the summer.. the roof is dark green.. we still get an occasional leak it drives us wild.. any ideas ?? thanks
How do you install metal roofing? Where do you put the screws???? I am installing a metal roof and heard of many different ways of anchoring the R-panel to my existing roof. I have been told to install the screws on the low side of the R-Panel with self sealling screws. I have also been told to install the screws on the upper part of the ridge. The second option made some sense because why would you make a hole where all rain and snow would be running down. But the first option makes sense because it is a solid anchor, no gap, between the R-Panel and the wood underneath. PLEASE help me , Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!
I need information on how to put up metal roofing.? I need to replace the old tar roof over my garage. Corrugated metal looks like it would be the most straight-forward to do myself. I can't find any books on how to do it and I'm sure there are special things to look for, keep in mind, etc. I appreciate learning from your experiences. Thanks
Metal Composite Roofing? Has anyone had a shake or asphalt roof and upgraded to a metal composite roof (gerard shake, granite ridge)? Expeirenced any cons of rain amplified, retained heat in the house, and etc? Today, I received a bid on an asphalt roof and they were saying to stay away from metal composite material, so I would like to hear some feedback.
Has anyone ever used metal roofing as a retaining wall? We are using T-posts every 8 feet and running 2 rows of 1x4's to attach the roofing to. I mostly wondered how the metal roofing would hold up to the elements underground or with dirt building up on one side of it. What do you think?
Our metal roof sweats inside the room, we have not replaced the ceiling yet. What could cause this? We live in a mobile home with a metal room attached that has a metal roof, the ceiling started leaking, so my husband took down the old ceiling and put a new metal roof on the room. He left the old metal on the roof , put insulation on top and then put new metal roofing on top of the insulation. Now the inside of the room sweats {we have not put in a new ceiling yet} it drips almost constantly. expecially when it is cold and the warm sun hits the roof. We need to put up a ceiling, but we cant't because the ceiling tile will just get wet and ruin. What can we do to stop the roof {ceiling} from sweating and getting everything in the room wet? Can anyone help us with this problem?
What is the minimum noise level criteria for a metal roofed garage in a residential neighborhood? My neighbor installed metal roofing on her garage next to my house, within 10 feet of the side of my house(legal setback) in my area, no problem there.....but the roof snaps all day in weather temperature change swings and it is quite annoying. What should I do? I don't want to be a pest, but it really racks my brain. Sounds like somebody throwing stones at her roof or acorns when the come off a tree onto a metal roof! metal roof condensation? Building a log cabin with loft. Have installed metal roof on 1x4 strapping which is on top of 2x10 rafters. Slope is 1:8 . Used mainly in the summer and fall - occasional weekend in winter. How should I insulate so I don't get condensation damaging the pine ceiling I intend to install on the under side of the rafters.
Is it safe to walk on a metal roof of a metal building? I'm looking to buy a metal warehouse building. The walls and roof are dirty and need cleaning. While the structure is plenty sound, I'm wondering how safe it is to walk on the roof. I was wondering if all metal roofs are built strong enough to support a person walking on it. For other types of roofs in colder climates, building codes specify a load capacity to hold up under snow. Here in Houston, such support does not apply. As the roof itself is very light, it doesn't need to be very strong to shed off rain.
