Bathroom Plumbing Questions

Bathroom Plumbing? I have two baths that I want to upgrade the plumbing on. I want to install trim kits for both tubs. Both tubs have Gerber fixtures in them. I am only able to find one Gerber trim kit on the market for a three valve setup. Will this one kit actually fit all three valve Gerber pipes? It seems odd that only one trim kit is available. I am trying to avoid disappointment as I need to order these & have them shipped. If they don't fit I will probably have a struggle returning them for a refund. Thanks!
basement bathroom plumbing install price? need plumbing installed for new full bathroom in the basement. the drains are already in the concrete. there are 3 drains in the slab. i just need the hot/cold lines and drain pipes connected. the sink vent line would tie into washing machine so no cutting into rim joist to create a new hole. the bathroom is under the 2 main floor bathrooms and is next to the hot water tank. i already got a quote, but would like to know what other people have paid for same job, not answers like oh it shouldn't cost too much. too vague. yes, that is a 3rd website i have seen where you can get quotes from contractors. only thing, they're all us websites.
Please help me with the bathroom plumbing issue!!! I bumped the pipe loose from the bottom of the sink??? We just moved into this house two weeks ago and I'm already breaking it! First off, forgive my plumbing lingo...I don't know this stuff. I pushed a box under the bathroom sink. When I did it, it loosened the connection of the pipe that connects the sink drain. I tried to tighten it back up, but when I did that the silver ring in the sink popped off. Is there a website that can explain how to fix this? I can tell that it isn't too complicated, but I want to do it right. Also, there is this SUPER smelly jelly stuff all on the inside that I'd like to clean out first, but I'm afraid to take apart pieces if I can't get it back together. Are there alot of little parts in there? Oh, please give me directions before my husband gets home. I want to show him that I can fix it. Please help. The straight pipe that connects directly to the bottom of the sink. The actuall little stopper "fell" into the sink hole about two inches. I see that it seems like the silver ring in the bottom of the sink bowl should connect to the pipe, but it's as though the pipe doesn't reach. I FIXED IT ! ! ! I am so proud of myself! My first home repair........oh, the memories I'm creating! Thanks for all the help!

Dirty diaper-type odor near bathroom plumbing? Our shower pipes are behind a closet wall in our bedroom. There is a small opening (with door) in the closet wall to access these pipes. Yesterday we noticed a dirty diaper-type odor coming through that opening. We checked under the house (crawl space) and everything looked fine. About noon today the odor has dissipated. What could it be? I'm afraid the odor may return and was wondering if it may be a clogged vent. Any suggestions from those of you with a lot of plumbing knowledge?

Looking for ballpark cost to have installed a basic bathroom in home including plumbing installed + full bath? The home is a modular, the closet was supposed to be a bathroom, but the previous owner did not install a bathroom, and it is simply a huge closet. We need to have all the plumbing done, plus a full bath tub, sink, vanity, toilet, and floor. We are looking for the cheapest and most basic materials for the tub, vanity, etc. The house is in PA. Anyone have any ideas?
Building/Plumbing Question - Bathroom Refit? I am refitting my bathroom. It has a 1970's cast iron bath which has to be removed. It is to heavy really and too cumberstand to lift it out and take it down the stairs (which have a sharp turn and tapering treads on the turn. I am told you can't smash them up with a sledghammer becasue they are too strong and the impacts will send the bath through the adjacent walls. I am also told if you you cut it in half with an abrasive grinding disk it will create huge clouds of fine black dust everywhere which will go all over the house. Another has said drill holes on bends/curves for cutting it in half, because this will weaken its monocoque shape. I am a pensioner and am no longer like Tarzan, so what I am looking for is someone who is skilled and has done this 'trick' before to tell me what is the best way forward in this dilemma.
how much should it cost to have a contractor install a bathroom and plumbing for the bathroom in your basement assuming medium quality toilet and fixtures and tile, small sink vanity, stand up shower?

plumbing a additional bathroom -need some information/advice? Adding a bathroom/ mudroom to first floor in existing screen porch with cement floor. Sewer exiting in 3 1/2 PVC through concrete into yard on its way to sewer connection. How deep does the pipe need to be underground as it exits the house? and would cast iron be a better choice? What does the Texas Plumbing Code or UPC say about overflow prevention in bathroom sinks? Does anyone know if this it is acceptable in the state of Texas (Houston to be specific) or as part of the UPC Plumbing code to not have overflow prevention at bathroom vanity sinks? Or, does anyone know where i can find the part of the codebook to reference this question. My bath vanity sinks do not have an overflow prevention. If i turn on the faucet and plug the drain, it will overflow. The Powder room pedestal sink has 3 small homes on the inside of the sink bowl on the fornt lip where if the water level reaches, it will drain out the sink drain. The Master bath and others with a vanity cultured marble cabinet top sink do not have these. I am trying to figure out if this is acceptable, I have googled everything i can think of. TIA.
Is it legal to connect a bathroom vent fan to a plumbing exhaust pipe? This doesn't seem like a great idea but the second floor bathroom ceiling vent fan has never been vented to the outside and it would have to go through the soffit or roof at best, not near gable either.
Plumbing: Does a drain for a bathroom sink have to approach from the back of the sink? OR can I re-route the drain to enter from the side? My bathroom sink is located in a corner with the back to an outside wall. The builders installed the the drain pipe to come up through an interior wall to the right hand side and turn the corner 90 degrees to get into the outside wall so that the drain could approach the sink from the back. This sink clogs constantly due to all the angles - I have to remove the trap and clean the pipe in the wall every four months and the smell from the pipe clog is horrible, like straight sewer gas. I would like to know that if I tear off the drywall and route the drain to come from the interior wall straight to the drain, to remove the 90 degree turn in the outside wall, if it would still meet code? http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/464/sinkrf2.jpg In the picture the Pink represents the CURRENT drain and the white tape represents what I want to do. the house was built in 1979 and I don't know what they were thinking when they did this.
Plumbing! I needed to fix my bathroom faucet, so I turned hot and cold water faucets off under the sink.? Now, when I turned them on, they are dripping. My plumbing was installed 2 years ago and everything is pretty new. The nipple which holds the faucet handle is impossible to turn in any direction and water is dripping from it. How can I tighten is?Would it work if I just put silicon around it to stop water? I know that's the best is to call plumber, but they charge so much even for little things. Please ,advise.
For a bathroom remodel, what brand of plumbing fixtures for the shower and sink should I buy? The big box stores have the basic items (Delta, Kohler, Moen , Price Pfister and Hansgrohe brands). What should I look for in quality and what brands should I avoid? I will have a professional plumber install the unit. If you have personal experience with this type of work I would really like to hear how your project turned out.
Plumbing and venting in the basement for a bathroom? would like to add a bathroom in the basement. The problem is there is not vent stub out. I plan in putting in a sink, tub, and toilet. I also plan on having a utility sink and a bar sink. These are on the oppisite side of the house. There is a vent that is attached to the upstairs tolet that is accessable. But, I don't think I can use that because the toilet upstairs is above all the sinks downstairs. Also, it is about 30-40 feet away from the basement bathroom. What I was thinking of doing is putting another vent NEXT to the vent that is attached to the upstairs toilet. Then connecting the basement with the upstairs toilet vent in the attic. The vent in the attic is a 4 in stack that goes to the roof. The upstairs toilet attaches to that. Am, I on the right track? The basement is pre-stubbed.
Is it possible for a Cuban Tree Frog to climb through plumbing to gain entry to my bathroom? Because one showed up in the middle of the night and scared the life out of me!

How can we access plumbing in floor if we tile the floor? We have a house that was built in 1900s and a bedroom was made into the bathroom. The plumbing is in the floor. Plywood was screwed around the plumbing as an access door and then carpet was placed over it - of course the carpet got moldy after many, many years. Now we want to place ceramic tile in the bathroom - how can we still get access to the plumbing easily if something goes wrong and there is tile there? I want to think you can do a tile an access panel that can be removable but would it leak if it got wet? Help!
Plumbing for new pedestal sink comes from the floor?? I want to install a pedestal sink in my bathroom. The plumbing for the old sink comes from the floor. So my question is, how would you do the plumbing for the new pedestal sink? Can it be done coming out of the floor? Will it be really hard to do?
What is this syrup-like residue that drips off of the bathroom ceiling? Hi, I recently moved into a 50 year old house that has been remodeled. It is only one story high, so there isn't any bathroom or plumbing above the problem bathroom. The residue is brownish-tan (similar in color to honey or pancake syrup). It is also sticky to the touch. I noticed that there were a couple of spots when we first started to use the shower (been using it now for about 2 months). They didn't get any worse; that is, until we took a vacation. We went on vacation for about 4 days and left the air-conditioner off (it's about 90-100 degrees F outside the whole time with NO rain). When we got back we quickly noticed that the brown spots had spread across 1/4 of the bathroom (it was just above the shower only) and had gotten soo bad that it actually dripped into the bathtub. What is this residue and how do I get rid of it?! Does the heat have anything to do with it? Thanks for reading, Brian
How much does it cost to put in a new full bathroom? (est)? Does anyone know about how much it costs to put in a new FULL bathroom? Including plumbing & labor?
How much does it cost to get a bathroom rough plumbed? I had a friend rough plumb our basement and I am wondering how much we should pay him for his service, other than parts?
Has anyone ever seen a laundry room/bathroom combo in a basement before? We have a split foyer home and have since done some remodeling in the basement. We didn't put in the bathroom at the time but now we are thinking of doing so. Trouble is, the walls we put in for the office are cramping the size of the bathroom because the plumbing for the toilet and sink are between the wall and the washer and dryer. There isn't much room left but I think a small powder room could be put there. My husband and my uncle suggested boxing in the laundry room and making it a combo-room and having the bathroom in that room with the washer and dryer, no wall just all together since there is limited space. Putting in walls would make the bathroom more cramped. So just having a toilet and sink put in as if it were a bathroom but leaving it open to the rest of the laundry room. Maybe putting up a "hospital" type curtain on a track to provide some privacy but that would be it. Has anyone ever seen this done before? I would think it wouldn't do well for resale.
Plumbing Old Drain Connections. . .? I am looking to re plumb a bathroom in an old house. Water supply is copper pipe, and the drain is a 1-1/2 or 2" thick walled pipe (maybe galvanized?) with NPT connections. When I run a new sink and shower can I run PVC drains? Is there an adapter to fit PVC to metal drains?
Plumbing Question! Continuous backup in basement? We are having a small problem with our plumbing. The unused bathroom in our basement would overflow all the time (we are on a septic system) even when our pump was on. We capped off the Toilet and sink now. Now when we shower/flush/laundry, it comes out of the tub and the drain line for the washing machine. We have snaked all lines but the stack and the tub. What can we do (this is a long weekend, and it would cost alot of $$$$ to call a plumber out 45 min out of the main city) We have lived in this house three years, the septic tank was just cleaned out in November so we haven't ignored it and this problem JUST started this past week. We have capped off the toilet already as we were getting MORE water when the toilet was there. Its not so much now, but just leaking out of other places. We are aboot to go clean the stack (oh and we have thawed out the ice in the vent on the roof as the weather has been almost -45 for three weeks) in the basement.
Ball park figure for repiping bathroom, LV? My rental house in Las Vegas has had very frequent plumbing problems lately, yesterday Roto-rooters went out and performed a camera diagnostic, and found the old metal pipe was collapsed about 6 inches in, which was causing the water overflow. They want to re-do the plumbing in the bathroom to the toilet which he said led to the main drain. My question is how much should something like this cost, and also, should I ask to get the other bathroom upgraded to newer style plumbing as well, to avoid this in the future? Roto Rooter already charged me $500 just for the diagnostic, and I think that may be a little on the high side. Thanks
Complete bathroom renovation -- Where to start? My husband and I are in the process of renovating our two bathrooms, and we're not sure exactly what order things need to be done. We want to do things in the order that makes the most sense. In other words, is it better to do flooring before installing the toilet or vice versa? Work to be done includes some new framing and drywall, simple electrical, new plumbing, all new bathroom fixtures (tub, toilet, etc.), new flooring (tile), paint, and lighting. We'll hire out when we can't do something ourselves, but for the most part it's a DIY project. So far, he and his buddies have removed the old fixtures and taken out a wall to make it larger. So, in your experience.... what's next?
Is there more sink plumbing through walls or floors? I am hoping to receive some valid info from seasoned plumbers to give me an idea of how many bathroom vanities are plumbed through the floor rather than the walls. I haven't a clue, so any help is greatly appreciated.
