Shower Plumbing Questions
How to cut tile in shower to get at plumbing w/least damage? The diverter isn't working right for our 1950's 3-valve shower/tub plumbing. Half the water goes up to shower, half comes out the tub spout. I want to get the diverter out to see if that's where the problem lies. I've got the handle off & can *see* some of the edges of the packing nut, but apparently they cut the tile to fit the stem -after- all of the plumbing was already in place. The hole in the tile is smaller than the entire packing nut (let alone big enough to let me get the socket in & turn it). I really don't want to re-tile the entire shower. What I'd like to do is to snip the hole in the tile to something that's just barely bigger than the packing nut. How do I cut the tile with the least chance of totally breaking it & having to replace it? Also, any advice re: fixing the diverter would be appreciated, too!
Shower Plumbing Issue? Just today I was in the shower and a loud noise (like a long rattling) occured followed by the shower pressure dropping. I turned off the water and started it up again and it went away. However, it happened again when my wife went in this evening. What is going on?

We have a plumbing problem with our shower faucets- how can we fix them? Our house was built in 1968 and our most recent remodel was a few years ago. We retiled our shower ( professionally ) and also had them install new faucets. Since then we have started having problems and it has progressively gotten worse. The cold water faucet seems fine ( hard to tell because we have a water saver showerhead ) but the hot water is barely turned on to get a warm shower. It's almost off- when you turn if off, it doesn't even seem like you are actually turning it, it's so slight. My husband said he has the parts to fix it, but he hates plumbing, and dreads taking it apart, that he won't be able to fix it and it'll only be worse, or create more problems. Anyone know what might be going on with the faucets? I don't know the brand-so we couldn't contact the manufacturer- but I would hope it's a good brand because we picked high grade tile. Also, the cold water faucet drips when we are showering- not alot but enough if you happen to get underneath it! The hot water in the rest of the house is normal.
plumbing rough in of a tub/shower in basement concrete floor? i'm new to plumbing houses with basements. toilets and sinks are no problem, however, im clueless as of how to rough in a tub/shower. I've heard of tub boxes but i know nothing about them. Where should I place in relation to the walls. i realize once the concrete is poured around it, it's done. I could sure use some help with this. I appreciate any help.
Plumbing - single-knob shower has cold, but no hot water. Causes? Home is 10 years old, was vacant for a year before I bought it. One shower has cold water only, no hot. The single knob turns on the water, with decent pressure. As you rotate the knob to get more hot water (mixing in hot with the cold), it does not warm up. When you dial it all the way to hot, there is no water flow at all. It appears that the hot water is not able to get through 'somewhere'. How to diagnose? 1) other showers and adjacent sinks all have warm/hot. 2) second floor bathroom, no easy wall access 3) no apparent leaks currently Could the hot water to JUST that one fixture have been turned off? Where? (If there was a leak, and this was the former owners way of dealing with it.) The hardware store guy said it might be the 'stem', and showed me a couple of $15 parts that could be bad. Is this the kind of repair that a semi-handy person could complete? (I have completed a variety of different home repairs, but would not call myself an expert!)
Plumbing/Designish question (shower related)? My fiance and I constantly fight over water in the shower. Pushing, shoving, you know, bad stuff... I was thinking of running a copper pipe along the front of the shower/tub combo to the other side to install another showerhead. I would mount this on both sides of the gap. We would use the copper pipe as our curtain rod (so picture that as where it's running). Comments? Concerns? I'm wondering if the copper would corrode and leave marks/streaks on the wall?
How hard is it to move plumbing for a shower drain? I want to switch out my square shower with center drain to a neo angle corner shower with a drain in the corner. This doesn't seem like it should be hard as I'll have the pipes exposed once the old shower pan is removed. Is a plumber really necessary?
Plumbing - both toilet and shower backed up? The toilet periodically goes "blub, blub" and all the water goes away. The shower doesn't drain properly. Is there a drain where both come together that might be blocked? What should I do? I really don't want to call a plumber for something i might be able to do myself...
when replacing the fixtiures in a shower/tub do you have to do any actual plumbing? or does a new universal replacement type just mount in the same plumbing left when you remove the old parts.does the stem length on the new have to match the old length so the handles are not recessed too much (or stick out to far).the house was built in the late 60s and when i tried to replace some parts, the stem(speakman brand)was the longest one in the cataloge and wasnt stocked at home depot .now i bought a new set (5 pcs) and dont want to tear out ,or cut up the tub surround or try to get at the plumbing from the back. HELP
PLUMBING ???? When I turn on the water in the tub it comes out of the shower head & the faucet? Water comes out simultaneously until you pull up the shower pin. The plumber has just left the house and said I should call the Delta help line. Delta help line said it's an install issue. Apparently, my plumber didn't know what he was doing. I have really nice tile on the shower wall and on the other side of the wall I have a shallow wall with a small access door. I also have 2 tenants moving in Wednesday evening. What should I do? I think I'm going to forget using the other plumber. What do I do to move on now, in the most cost effective way to get this problem fixed.
plumbing showers? can i hook up a thermostatic shower to a combi boiler system. i don't know what you call them in england so i will give you a pic http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=27418-000000866-82246&lpage=none, you will know what i mean. i am in the states and we call it a manifold in the center and then your tap at the bottom and your shower head up top. i looked into another site and they said you can't hook up a power shower to a combi boiler system so i am wondering about this plumbed shower.
how does the plumbing work for showers? here's the problem... we take showers- 90% of the hot water comes from the faucet and right down the drain and only 10% of the hot water along with the cold comes from the shower head. so we end up freezing our heads and burning our feet. is there a way to fix this problem or do we have to replace all the plumbing in the wall? Help
Shower head leaking leaking after shut off? I have a new installation of a shower head, plumbing pipes and valve. Everything works well, no leakage, good pressure and no leakage when closing the handle. The problem comes later, after a few minutes, it will leak at about 1/3 open and for about 1-2 minutes. Then it shuts off for good until next shower. many thanks!!
Can we sue the city govt for approving plumbing work not to code? We are the 2nd owners of our house. The house is only 4 years old. We recently found mold damage in the master bathroom. We thought it was because the shower was leaking. After my husband tore out the shower, we discovered that the shower was never plumbed. The water was going through an unsealed hole in the plywood, emptying under our house. There is no evidence of the shower ever having been plumbed. There is no pipe. All other plumbing is fine. Now, our master bathroom needs to be completely replaced and our homeowner's insurance doesn't cover it. Can we sue the city since the house passed inspection when it was built?
