Gel burning fireplace inserts? I have a fake fireplace made of what seems like a hard plastic and want to put a ventless gel burning insert inside, is this possible without danger? Are they insulated?
Gas fireplace insert question!? I have a two sided fireplace. You see one side in the living room and one in the kitchen. We burn wood in it right now...but I want to get a gas insert so we don't have to worry about wood anymore. My question is do they make ventless inserts two-sided? I don't want to close up one side of my fireplace. If they do can you refer me to a site??
Can I cost-justify a fireplace insert? I have a woodburning fireplace & electric forced air heat. Any way to cost-justify a fireplace insert of any kind? I'm curious about both wood stove and pellet stove inserts.

Prefab Fireplace to Wood Stove Insert? What would it take to change my Prefabricated fireplace out to a Woodburning stove fireplace / insert and what kind of money am I looking at if I want this done? Please let me know if more information is needed. Thanks.
UGLY fireplace insert - how do I de-ugly it?!? The 1940s house we were buying had a cute-ish reddish brick fireplace - until the inspection showed a leak. The repair was a fireplace insert - very functional, very expensive, terribly ugly black surround with chrome edges that mostly covers the brick and creates a giant ugly black hole focal point, looking even worse for showing just a hint of brick behind it. Can't get rid of it, can't spend a fortune, but must paint or do something about the black part and the HORRIBLE CHROME. Desperate for creative ideas.
new jotul gas fireplace insert keeps shuting down at random times, sometimes the pilot goes out too.? The new natural gas fireplace insert will be operating fine than all of a sudden poof it goes out and sometimes the pilot will go out when it shuts off the fire. It was proffesionally installed by the dealer including the double pipe installed in my chimmney flue for intake and outake. The dealer and gas company have checked everything and they say everything is ok.I also have a gas furnace and hot water heater and they have no problems, need some help as nobody wants to admit that there is a problem.
Have you ever removed a fireplace insert stove, but kept the fireplace? We have what I consider to be a very ugly fireplace insert that is black, with a solid door, no window to actually enjoy the fire.It extends out from the fireplace 11 inches on an raised hearth that extends out 22 inches from the wall. I have been wanting to remove it since we bought the house 7 years ago. We have never used it. The fireplace surround and hearth are brick.
LCD or Plasma over a gas fireplace insert? Pretty much any design show on TV doing a reno on a den or family room will include a TV over a gas fireplace insert. They don't specify if they are installing LCD or plasma TV though. I understand that plasma TV's run hotter, but maybe they're able to withstand more heat. Perhaps LCD's might be better because they run cooler and therefore can tolerate more heat. Must be someone who's installed dozens of these things or had to service units that have been installed for a couple or few years now.
Is there a way you can use an insert for a fireplace, if you do not have a fireplace? I have a dear friend that doesn't have much money so I wanted to ask this question before they put this in. They were given a fireplace insert. He has cut a hole in there livingroom and is going to frame it with "cement board" and then run triple stove pipe up from there. Is it possible to do this? should he do more than that for the insert. I'd hate to see them create a problem while trying to stay warm this winter.
I have the electric fireplace insert, but need a mantel...? All the sites I have found online offer fireplace/mantel combos only. I only need a mantel. I've even thought of just building my own and tried finding woodworking plans for them and have come up empty. I may just take measurements and build something rudimentary and then build around that using stone/wood etc. Things to consider before answering: 1.We work for a major home improvement company.. not interested in what they have in stock. 2. I have searched to exhaustion online. Perhaps someone knows a site that I have not found yet. 3. I am leaning toward building my own, but would love ideas that are unique and creative. Thanks so much!
Pros and cons of a fireplace insert? There is one currently in our fireplace at our new home but it won't hold as much wood and the blower on it makes an awful racket and it's just not very pretty..... chimney sweep says he'll have to take it out to clean the chimney anyway so I may leave it out. What do you think?
Is it hard to install fireplace doors? We have an existing fireplace insert brass-framed glass doors and we want to replace it with a silver-framed fireplace glass doors. Is that hard to do? I have no idea how to uninstall our existing insert, if you have tips, let me know. The fireplace door insert looks like this: http://www.northlineexpress.com/customkititems.asp?kc=5HC%2DSENTRY%2DT The surround is brick. The frame is inserted into the fireplace whole. Not sure how it is attached. Hoping the directions of the new screen will shed some light for me since we didn't install the old one, came with the house when we bought it.
The fireplace blower is taking in air, rather than blowing it out, why? It is a Washington StoveWorks fireplace insert. As I understand it the company is no longer in business. I set a notecard in front of the blower and it sucked the paper onto it. Is the blower suppose to be blowing hot air out? This one is sucking air in, any idea on why or how to fix it?
propane fireplace surround/view options? We are considering a Vermont Castings propane fireplace insert. It comes with 30000 BTU's...I think I have that correct, with the option to turn it down. Our livingroom is about 13 X 18. I'm worried that the room may become uncomfortably hot. Any opinions? Also, there's a great deal of styles. Has anyone got an opinion regarding "all black" or antique brass, etc? And you can get one with a bay window and I don't know if that's nicer or not. Lots of decisions! And "radiant" or "circulating"? I understand the pilot light stays on all the time. They say they're very safe.....I hope so! Thanks for any input. gere
