Need idea to cover a thin water pipe in a basement remodel?
The pipe is thin vertical connection to the outside water. It comes in about 6" and has a shut-off valve to it. I thought of building a soffit and having an access panel, but I'd really like to have the entire length of pipe accessable in case something happens later. My first post was a little confusing, sorry.

- What is the function of the room? How will it be decorated?
- Box it with hinges. Top works as a shelf and you can open the front up to access the pipe.
- lag it then box in, hinged lid for entire length of pipe maybe in sections?
- The only way to have access to the whole pipe, Is to install a drop ceiling. If your ceiling joists are clear, meaning you have nothing hanging below them, you could use a ceiling max system for drop ceiling. This new system allows you to screw the "drop" ceiling right to the joists, but still be able to remove the panels to access pipes and things. You can find it at Lowe's.
- I would build a 3 sided box around the pipe with screws for easy access. I would build it in such a way so the seams are less visable and then stain it to make it look like a exposed support beam. I have done this in my own basement with plumbing, gas, and electric lines. Repair men love them because they don't have to snake walls or tear them up.
