I am remodeling my bathroom and was wondering what kinds of toilets would be the most efficient to buy?

- the 1's that flush
- Depends you are going to do with the toilet
- I don't know a name brand but one that has a small tank is most efficient--uses less water per flush.
- low water use toilet. Check with the store to see which ones of those flush well. Some do and some don't do well
- i saw this model toilet in sendai, japan where you get to push buttons to let water come out of a spout directed "under" so you can wash. the water "spouts" in three ways and you can even select. got a warmer for winter. cool and kinda hi-tech for a toilet ;-)
- All toilets sold in US are now "low-flow." The trouble is, the cheaper ones haven't bothered to re-design the syphon to compensate for less water, so flush isn't powerful enough to avoid clogging. For efficiency, the best design I've seen has two flush buttons on top of the tank, one for half-flush, the other for full. After using the toilet, you press the button that suits your needs. The syphon and water outlet is designed for a good, powerful flush with the lowest amount of water. Cost is somewhat higher than a standard toilet (around $250, I think), but comparable with other high end products like Kohler. My inlaws have two of these installed, and I'm very impressed with the way they function--no clogging, and much lower water use most of the time than even standard "low-flow" models. The company is Australian--not sure of the name--but most "green" building supply stores or websites should carry them.
