Bathroom remodeling?
We're getting the tub redone by Bath Fitter, but we also want to get a new toilet and sink. Do we have to hire a plumber or is it possible to change them ourselves?

- you can change them by yourself, it is fairly easy and the instructions are in with it . but from personal experiance, before you start doing this, check your plumbing lines, we were midway through a bathroom remodel when we had to call a plumber out because the shut off valves were not working properly and had to replace them all.
- Put the money into some new tools instead of hiring a plumber, and that way you can take on other projects with confidence in the future. A toilet installation is no more than two bolts, a new wax ring and rehooking the water line! A few muscles and two people can make this a very simple project. Know how to shut off the water. Instructions are included with any toilet. Make sure to get one with JetAction Siphon flush. The sink is maybe a little trickier, but very do-able. The faucet has to be disconnected from the water source, and unbolted from the sink. But, the sink is usually just set in place and caulked to adhere to the countertop. A sharp utility knife can break the seal and make it possible to pull out. Again. Shut off the water and go for it! A few new fixtures make a bathroom so much nicer!
- i have a wonderfull tips for you.obvisously, you are going to strip the bathroom all the way down to the 2 by 8 planks, have them checked for termite damage and replaced if needed.to help asure from future damages, think about rubbing motor oil into the 2 by 8 boards before you place the capsheet(plywood)-(ever wonder why the railroads used creasaute on their railroad ties? - it was because of termites !),also, when you place your new tub in,think about pressing insulation deep in the walls of your tub as well as under it and this will keep your water, warmer much longer and save you money in the long run on your hot water bill
- It all depends on your experience. If you are completely new to plumbing type of work then get a professional plumber to do the work. If you have done some plumbing work (not necessarily toilet fitting) then DIY will save you money. If you are going to DIY then make sure that the fittings are easy to assemble. Make sure that you have right tools at home to do the work. Most of the latest bathroom/toilet fittings are easy to fix. So you do not have to worry much about DIY. The best way to decide whether DIY is the best option is to visit the toilet fittings supplier and select your products and ask the supplier to explain how to fix them. In this way you will come to know whether you will be able to do the work or not.
