What else do I need to pay for kitchen remodeling?

I have been given a quote for a kitchen remodel. Price will include demolition, materials and installation. Materials would include all new birch shaker style cabinets, undermount sink, granite counter and full back splash so granite would go from the counter to the bottom of the wall cabinets. I would need to pay a plumber $350 for installing faucet, dishwasher hook up and garburator. I would need to buy a new faucet, and new appliances. The gas stove place will hook it up for free Kitchen guy said when with demolition, no electrical will be touched and will remain as is, there may be small holes in the drywall but don't worry because the granite would cover them. Is that true for the above two items? He also said that if there isn't any floor tiles underneath the base cabinets, don't worry as they would put shimmy to level it. Will this work? What items have I forgotten?

  1. If you have a quote for a total job, it should include the installation of your new cooker etc. All and everything should be listed on the quote. If not, ask, ask, ask...... Any company that wants your business will willingly answer, if they dont, then dont accept their business.... Chnaces are that if they are impatient with your enquiries before they do the job, they will be just awful while they are doing it and deaf when things are wrong after...... Possibly, you may also want, new paint, new tiles, new floor. When they told you that they would level the floor, does that mean that the new kitchen will change in position. If it does, you will be left with a patched floor to look at. Really check out the electricals. While you may not need to change the electrics, are the lights going to be in the right spot. Will the power points end up behind the cooker. Will the fridge cord reach to old power point? It will be much cheaper to have a sparky come in and install new power points and lights, before any splashback is installed...... When I redid my kitchen, I had 4 downlights put it. Two new powerpoints and 3 changed position. It cost me about $150 australian and about $200 in labour. The guys had to make 3 trips which they did willingly to fit in around the other tradesmen. I made the cupboards and got a carpenter mate to help install. Another experienced unqualified friend did the tiles. Paid for benchtops and installation. Paid sparky and plumber. The plumber was prone to temper tantrums and did a terrible job. I did the floor, painting, and fine detailed stuff. It can be as easy or as hard as you like. Just remember to ask, ask, ask, and laugh.
