How many people do their own home remodeling?

- More and more each day. The more you want to profit the more you will sweat and do it yourself. Contractors are greedy and if you can do it yourself you will be ahead of the game. You only call on contractors if you cant do it yourself. doctorkersey@yahoo.com
- I remodeled my home bnecause i love to shop... My boyfriend did the floors and things like that and put together the color schemes and furniture patterns!
- we will , when we buy a house in the next couple of months . this is what he dose for a living already , and i am exited to learn !
- I do. I beleieve a lot of people do. It is more cost effective, besides you learn a lot. Most projects are not that hard even if they seem to be at first.
- DIY home remodelling actually accounts for about 4/5 of all remodelling jobs. However, I don't think there are studies on exact numbers by dollar, family, individual, or type of project, etc.
- We do it ourselves but then - we are both in the construction industry and are a licensed contractor. That helps.
- Having a lot of construction related family members, I'd say honestly about 2/3. The cost of construction materials has increased so much over the last few years, forcing already high-priced contractor prices to skyrocket.
- A lot more than ever before. Which is good... and bad. I think that DIY and HGTV are great resources for the do-it-yourselfer. And I think many people make wise choices in the home improvement projects they undertake. On the other hand, I've come to see a lot, and I mean a LOT, of self-done home projects that were obviously done by the home owner to cut costs. The materials were substandard, the job was not properly executed and/or the homeowner was obviously working with materials he/she was not familiar with, the work was obviously not cleared with the city (in exterior additions).... None of this really matters if that same homeowner is going to stay in that home for the rest of his/her life. But if he/she plans on selling that house later on, they may find their final asking price sinks below what they were expecting when they discover that prosective buyers are turned off by the work that was done. Just something for those who are tempted to cut corners should chew on.
- DIY is becoming more and more trends nowadays, as well as SOHO. This is a very pure and very good idea to do things by your-own. But, by 'your-own' I didn't mean you don't need a helpful hand. Discussion with professional will result Great performance.
