Order of Home Remodeling Projects?
Ok, should I replace my drywall before or after the new carpets go in?? Does it matter when the windows get replaced, or would it be better to have the new drywall up first with thicker insulation?? Should I replace my cabinets in the kitchen before or after the drywall?? Is there a "best" order in which to do these things?

- Yes, there's a good order. 1) Do anything that involves ripping holes in walls, especially holes that go through to the exterior. 2) Do the things that involve creating walls and floors. That is, not the wall and floor coverings, but the actual walls and floors. This would include drywall. 3) Paint the ceiling, the walls... it's easier not to get paint on cabinets and rugs that aren't there! I might paper at this time too... no need to worry about drips and such that way. But you might paper after cabinets... depending on how much wall will be covered. 4) Put up anything that will hang on the walls, like cabinets. 5) Do the floor coverings. That way they're last and nothing drips on them, no nails go into the carpet to be found by feet later on, and so on.
- Carpet last -- otherwise, they kind of go together. When removing the existing cabinets and windows, you're going to damage the drywall. I'd suggest- -demo the cabinets and the drywall -install the new windows (unless you're getting the kind that fit inside you're existing window frames - then it doesn't matter when the windows are done) -do any electrical work you need in the kitchen, adding the wiring and boxes for outlets, switches, undercabinet lighting, etc. -drywall and paint -install cabinets (yes, you may ding the walls - but easier to do touch painting, rather than having to mask off everything to paint after the cabinets are in) -carpet (again, the carpet guys may scuff the wall here and there - but easier to do just touchup, rather than worry about paint on the new carpet)
