home remodeling???

I want to open the wall between my dining room and kitchen and both rooms are 10x10 with a 36"x82" door way. I want to know what type of saw should I use and and the proper steps to remove the wall. if you choose to get into more detail feel free to email me. Thanx to all I dont believe its a load bearing wall. There is nothing above these rooms. Also the ceilings are vaulted 9'10" at the high point.

  1. The first thing you need to do is make a determanation if the wall to be removed is a bearing wall, a wall that supports the weight from above, If it is, then you need to have a beam placed actoss the span, and that has to be of a certain size, decided by an engineer. If it isn't, then a reciptacal saw is basically all you need. that and some elbow grease, for the clean up. A circular saw will be used for new trim" although I recomend a compound miter saw.
  2. Is it a supporting/weight bearing wall? If so you may need planning permission and may need to insert a steel bar to stop the house falling down, also be very careful of electics, plumbing and gas pipes that may be in the wall. If its just a stud or partition wall grab your sledge hammer and enjoy the time of your life!!!
  3. use a sawzall. measure the spot you want to cut out, on both sides of the wall. cut down the down the line, remove one side at a time, remove all material from that side. go to the other side do the same thing, caution to all wiring.
