- You may be able to have your doctor fill out a statement stating that this medical condition limits your ability to do your primary job functions. Then you may be eligible for ssi disability.
- it is considered a disability because my niece has seizures and she gets money every month from social security for that and there are programs that help her if she has any expenses or any services she needs she can get free but this is in New York. I found this, http://www.thearclink.org/state/system/index.asp?ID=FL this tells you where to apply and what are the requirements for this program. I recommend if you havent done so already to check with a doctor, because they have medications that can help control your seizures and there is a diet that in many cases has made seizures stop completely :) good luck and hope this helps!
- Sorry, I don't live in Florida. It is a wacky theory of mine that seizures may have something to do with high insulin production (hyperinsulinemia). If you are going to get lab studies done - ask your doctor for the simple blood test to rule out hyperinsulinemia. If this is part of the cause of seizures, then dietary control will be possible. For basic information on hyperinsulinemia, check out www.mayoclinic.com and search for hyperinsulinemia.
- Call or visit your county health department. I use mine here, and they are surprisingly good. I get drugs free through that place because they enrolled me in the manufacturer's hand-out program. They have a more sophisticated less demeaning name for it like patient assistance program. The key is: tell the county doctor you need a diagnosis, then when it comes to seizure meds, they will ideally put you on samples until they find one that works, only trying drugs that they get samples to hand out to patients. Find out if you qualify first. I bet you do. I don't know the criteria here but I noticed they take all income brackets. Not all manufacturers have programs, but that's a common ailment so they have something set up for others with the same diagnosis. good luck!
