Ideas for roofing?

We found an old shack that we're making our clubhouse. There are hardly any shingles and there are gaps in the roof. I need a cheap way for roofing. Nothing fancy, just so when it rains we don't get wet. I was thinking nailing plywood on the inside.

  1. use a tarp
  2. Check out some recycled yards or old houses for demolition for old corrugated iron sheets that are now scrap. Might be able to pick them up cheap. Of course transporting them may be a problem. May also have a few holes that you could patch up with silicon. Get some roofing screws or nails and put them down. There will be some safety issues - such as exposed edges, and you need to make sure they are secure so they don't blow off. Also take care when putting them up - you don't want to fall!
  3. Rubber roofing may help, plywood must be water repel ant
  4. It would be best if you put the ply wood on top. If its old, the old roof will come off easy. The least costly of roofs, if it has a little slope is to put new plywood deck, then 1 ply of #30 felt nailed to that with simplex nails. Then you can put on rolled roofing with modified adhesive. Materials for this will cost aprox $90.00 per 100 sq/ft. If that is too much for your budget, you have to repair the holes in plywood decking thats already there and coat with an Elastomeric Roof Coating. This product can be purchased for anywhere from $50.00 - $90.00 per 5 gal pail. It will take 2 gal per 100 sq/ft. Good Luck!
