is there any kind of light roofing for building which will also people to walk like rcc roof?

iam going to build a second floor to an existing 50 years old building and was advised to use only ac sheet,or light roofing which will not load the old building,like to know is there any kind of light roof which will allow people to walk,dry clothes sit etc like regular rcc roof and yet be light ,

  1. You have a bunch of issues which need to be addressed. To begin, is your house "balloon" framed, or is it "platformed" framed? You have what are called "live-load" issues which must be addressed prior to you doing any type of 2nd floor construction. I would first consult with a structural engineer to determine if in fact the existing framing will support a 2nd floor, plus your local building inspection department will probably require some sort of structural sealed drawing which attest that the existing structure will support what you are proposing to do. What I don't understand is your statement regarding roofing which will allow people to walk, dry clothes, sit, etc. You really need to clarify what you mean......
  2. I agree with Jim. I have a neighbor who recently added a second floor to his single story house. The inspector made him dig down to expose the footing under the basement walls, before the project could be approved. If your building is sound from the footing up, how is it different from any other two story house?
