Me again wittering on about roofing tiles........?

I've bid on some roofing tiles on ebay, havent paid for them yet, but its only £20 anyway, but the seller has sent me a sample which I have taken to a builders merchants, who tell me that they are fibre cement made to look like slate, and they DO look like slate, at a distance, and they are strong. They are about 30 years old, and the builders yard don't think they're asbestos. I like the look of them, I like the look of slate, but I've got a slate roof on my main roof, and they're breaking and falling all the time, and they get on my nerves! What should I do, I can get all the tiles I need to roof a big extension fo £20 Help, you roofers and builders out there, give me your opinions! Whoa, Tommy B, I have every intention of paying!!!! Whether or not I collect them I will pay... Just making sure Im doing the right thing.... gee whizz, who rattled your cage.................

  1. the seller is pretty good to send you samples by the looks of it I think you would be very hard to please 'buddy' just pay the money and take your chances or you could move home. if you made a bid and won you are suppose to pay for them

Hello, cement fibre slates tend to discolour over time, all-so you will notice three holes, two in about the middle just in from the sides for nailing slate to bat terns, bottom centre is for a pin to be inserted up from under side of slate and bent over. this stops the slate from turning up and also rattling. setting out the roof bat terns ? get professional help if you set one battern wrong all will be wrong.   4. Hi - Are you saying that the seller is going to supply enough slates to do a complete roof for £20? What is the cost of delivery? My gut feeling is one of suspicion. OK, so he sent you a sample. You may view this as a gesture of his honesty, but if you send your £20, and get nothing in return, it's a lot to pay for one slate. Sorry to be so negative but it doesn't smell right to me.
  5. these slates are called eternit ..they are fibrous cement ..and they do look like slate if you don't know what you are looking for ..one important tip ..they normally have a small hole in th bottom ..this is to fix the copper rivet which stops them bending up ..this rivet is fixed between the two lower slates and then the higher slate fits over the rivet and then you bend it down for a firm fixing
