The cat picks things up off the floor, like rubber bands, and drops them into the water dish: How come?

She shares the water dish with the dog.

  1. she whats her own water dish!!!!! =)
  2. My cat does that too, only he does it with his glitter balls. In my opinion, it's an instinctive behavior. Your cat could think that the rubber band is "prey" and put it in the water dish to "drown" it. I could be wrong, but this is only my opinion.
  3. Shes trying to tell you something. Search 'strange cat behavior' on a search or something to try & find out what it could mean. Sometimes pets do some very strange things =)
  4. Cats have a depth perception problem. A lot of cats will put their paw in the dish to see how much water is in there. You can try and put a marble in the dish that way she doesn't accidentally eat the rubber band.
  5. I don't know why she is doing that but you should take care to not let things like that lay around for her to have access to. Cats are notorious for eating things like string, rubber bands, hair scrunchies, etc. These objects can cause intestinal obstruction (a life threatening emergency). Sometimes a thread or string will become wrapped aroun the base of the tongue and this will also require a visit to the vet. So be careful what you leave out for her to get ahold of.. They also love those little twist ties but should always be supervised when playing with them.
  6. She really should have her own dish. I put mine on top of the kitchen counter. Her food is served on top of her kitty tree. She likes it better that way, trust me. As for drowning her toys? It's all part of the playing process. She does it to bother the dog. It's a thing. My mom's tom cat thinks it's really funny to lay on the dogs rawhide. He lays on it and the poor dog stares and whines because he's afraid of the cat (with good reason). The cat does this with many of the dogs toys. He also likes to drop dog food in the water bowl. Oh, and dragging the leash around the house. The poor dog thinks he's going for a walk half the day... Not really sure why the dog thinks the cat is capable of taking him for a walk, though....
  7. With the exception of toilets (which seem to hold their own fascination for both dogs and cats) I have noticed that cats prefer to drink water from shallow recepticals. Perhaps dropping things into the dish is your cats way of raising what she perceives to be the bottom of the bowl. Or she could just be lovably insane like most cats.
  8. i have the same problem. i have two female cats and the one puts her toy mouse in their food bowl everyday. i don't know why, unless to aggravate the other cat.
  9. She is just strange and probably trying to hide her "new toy" in a place she will remember. You may want to keep things like elastic bands out of reach of the animal as they pose a choking hazard.
  10. That's weird. I had a friend who's cat would dig her cigarette package out of the garbage and dunk it in her water dish. She would literally come flying out of nowhere when she heard her owner crinkling up the package to throw it out. Maybe she liked spiking her water for the nicotine? I really don't know. I guess it's just a quirk.
