How reliable is the X10 signal in an older house?
I'm looking at a home automation kit, but am still deciding. Anyone know anyhint about how reliable X10 signals are? I have an older house which I will soon be remodeling, i just want to make sure it is compatible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

- X10 works great in my 30+ year old home. My X10 modules became far more reliable when I installed a “Coupler Repeater” at the dryer outlet (link provided below). The Smarthome website does a great job explaining the “Coupler Repeater” and how it works. When my X10 modules perform erratically - can usually be traced to a failing florescent light – typically in the garage. Failing Florescent light flicker with dark areas at the ends. I’ve had much better success with the Leviton brand of X10 products. Typically priced a few dollars more – but far more reliable. If I were starting all over – would choose the new INSTEON technology. INSTEON is a combination of X10 and RF signals for more reliable home automation. Good Luck
