Is it a good IT career to work as a helpdesk agent in the networking field ?
I'm working as a helpdesk agent in a worldwide networks provider Sometimes I have the feeling that there is no growth in this job as the company is a flat organization , most of the Helpdesk agents do the same work , WHO WILL GET PROMOTED ?? I have another chance to work as an electrical engineer in the field of panel boards design and another job in the home automation field So confused wether to continue with my current job or change this career My study was electrical power engineering

- Focus in on what it is you want to do. I started with help desk for a year advanced to a Sr. Programmer / QA Analyst and stayed in that field continuing to climb the corporate ladder, I'm now in school to finish up my degree in finance, because that is really where my interest is - wealth management. While I will be taking over a 50% decrease in pay, it's still what I am interested in. I can always return to IT if it turns out I don't like it, but don't think you won't advance, this is your opportunity to stand out and go the extra mile and show management why you are better than the others, if it is help desk that you want to stay in.
