LED lights on a model car?
I have seen these 1/18 inch scale police cars that people have taken LED lights and put on there to give the car functioning lights (see youtube video). I am wondering if anyone knows how to go about doing this, as I wanted to build a car for my department. I know where to get the car, but I need to know how to do the lights and set them up to have different strobe patterns and whatnot. I know one of the components needed is a micro controller, but I have no clue as to what I am looking for, nor how to program the lights to flash in a certain pattern. I guess I can research all that once I find out what a micro controller is Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks http://youtube.com/watch?v=wU3W4-69P7g (these are die cast 1/18 inch scale cars)

- not sure babe but I know you can get flashing leds as standard, like the ones used on fake car alarms.
- I watched the video, pretty impressive. Here's what I would recommend. You need to take a trip to a well stocked hobby store one that has a lot of train stuff is going to be your best bet. Some stores carry electronics like this that will wig wag or simulate strobes or a beacon ray. Most will have an controller to set the rate, all you usually need is a small screwdriver. A momentary contact switch is about all the controls you will most likely need. Most of it is geared for HO scale (1/87) so it will be plenty small enough for 1/18 or even 1/24 (my scale of choice). If they don't have any of this in stock ask to see the Walthers Catalog. It will have these type of items listed in the electronics section. They should be able to order them for you. These things run about 20-30 bucks a circuit board. They also have sirens. Most of this will be in the 12 volt range but you can usually run them with a 9v battery. The instructions are usually clear and give you a couple of options. Good Luck and hope this helps.
