I would like to know if the new metal roofing is as good as the asphalt shingles? This would be for a home.?

1 floor house. Thank you all for your answers. I have just one more question: I want red for the one I decide on. Does anyone know if either one will fade over time?

  1. I just has the asphalt shingles on my home replaced with metal roofing and we love it.
  2. Asphalt shingles have come a long way and are very durable and long lasting. Metal roofing you will never need to replace in your lifetime, or your children's, probably longer.......
  3. its better and lasts longer
  4. No metal roofs are not as good unless you get a heavy snow load? Then thier good as they let the snow slide off and relieve the weight of the snow, it also depends on who it was designed
  5. Sometimes it is just a matter of personal preference. Here in Texas, there are a lot of metal roofs. It seems that if they were not practical for one reason or another, there wouldn't be very many. I personally don't like them. I am not positive on this but to me it would seem that rain and hail storms would make so much noise it may scare the beejeebers out of you. On the other hand, you probably won't have to replace your roof as often.
  6. Mostly a point of money. They have long warranties. My worry would be walking on them. The ones I have seen installed are raised up on wood strips. This seems like if you walked on them, you could cause dents or bends in the material. Still considering them though for when I need a replacement.
  7. Asphalt shingles are one of the least durable of all building materials. If you get a good quality metal roofing material (i.e. NOT made in China) it should last far longer than asphalt shingles. If it is made in China expect it to rust through in a year, galvanized or not.
