We are putting a new shingle roof next week.Does the weather this time of year affect the installation?

  1. Well, it's hard to install a new roof when there's a foot of snow on the old one...
  2. I assume that you are in a cold climate. Walking on newly installed shingles in cold weather will do far less damage to them than walking on them in hot weather. Only one possible downside. Most shingles manufactured today are of a "seal down" variety. There will be a row of black tar "spots" on the surface that will turn tacky in the hot sun and seal the exposed tabs of one shingle to the unexposed area of the shingle underneath. Although rare, high wind can sometimes lift and damage newly installed shingles that have not yet been heated to the point that they seal themselves. Unless you live in an area known for extremely high winds, this is not a problem I would worry about. In the end, it is far easier to shingle a roof in cold weather. Working on a hot roof on a July day can be brutal. Good luck with your project.
  3. It is much better to install it in warm weather.
  4. exbuilders answer is correct-asphalt shingles seal down with heat.
