How much does a new roof cost for a single family home?

It is for a one story, 1302 sq. ft. home in Northern California.

  1. I am in Louisiana and my husband is a contractor. We pay our roofer $52/square (that is a roofing square not square foot) and that includes us providing material and the roofer providing the labor and cleanup. The price depends on the pitch, etc. You will need to get a local roofer out for a quote, I recommend contacting your local homebuilders association and getting a reptuable roofer and get proof on his insurance!
  2. To re roof with shingles around $200.00 per square. You probably have around 20 squares. $4,000.00 New construction around $70.00 per square Sometimes when roofers get slow they will drop there prices considerably. Rainy season is the worst time to hire a roofer.
  3. This is variable, what materials are you using? Hiring a contractor, or doing it yourself? I ours was less than $2,000 (we did it ourselves with help of friends and family and used medium quality shingles.) Watch for sales (Menard's, Lowe's, etc.) and compare prices. Our home is a similar size.
  4. Hey.....be ready to pay up to 5K easy. Home insurance will pick-up the cost after your deductible.
  5. The main thing to do is to get several estimates from different contractors. Their prices can vary tremendously. Make sure all of them are pricing the same thing too, type of shingles, labor, hauling off/ cleaning up the mess afterwards and whether they are removing the shingles you have now or covering over them.
