Does anyone do crafts with pine cones?
I have 5 pine trees, always dropping something from them, some drop the huge 12-15 " cones and some are like 8" inches, if anyone wants them, I will start saving them for you. I have been burning them in the outdoor fireplace **People actually buy pine "straw" here, actually pine needles, I wish they would come and just take it from my yard by raking th @#$^ pine needles It is called "long leaf pine"...just long needles to me

- I have pne trees and you can spray them different colors and it makes for a beautiful center piece for the tables and you can sell them tomake extra money the favorite colors for me is blue, silver and gold,
- my grandma paints them white and puts a styrofoam ball on top and turns them into snowmen then sells them for Christmas
- No Martha, I dont use pine cones for nuthin
- Yes. I just collect a few from outside and place in a basket during the holiday season. Smells so good.
- We also have a lot of pines here, I must admit I don't do anything with them. My mom used to make beautiful wreathes and crafts with them. She's not up to it anymore.
- I used to make wreaths out of them, but since I don't celebrate a lot of holidays anymore, I don't. Try a cultural center or a school in your area.
- My late husband was Choctaw & he used to weave baskets with the pine needles. I still have 2 of his baskets in my bedroom. My grandmother used to cut the pine cones so that they resembled flowers. Then paint them bright colors like Zinnias, put a piece of wire in them and then wrap the wire with green florist tape. We were just talking about that the other day. I take pine cones & hot glue them to grape vine wreaths. Then go back & spray silver, gold & copper on the wreath. Add a red bow & they are read for the Yuletide.
- My neighbor behind me has 2 huge Georgia Pines that drop pine needles and pine cones. I burn the cones, rake the needles and save them and put them on my garden in November. My garden has the BLACKEST dirt! Two years ago, I hardly had any needles in my yard and looked up and they had cut the branches off that hung over my fence! My grandmother used to make center pieces out of the pine cones (northern Michigan) and pine boughs. She'd spray the cones silver and gold.
- I used to make pine cone wreaths by hot gluing them to a wire frame with nuts and acorns and tiny pinecones as well. then insert pieces of eucalyptus leaves here and there give them as gifts . You can make centre pieces with a covered candle in the center . You can tie about 6 pinecones together with ribbon and they make beautiful door hangings too. I still have one on my wall my daughter made. You should call your local schools and talk to the art teachers. they are always looking for natural and free art supplies. I 'll bet your fireplace smells great!
- I have a lot of pine cones too. My family is not very artistic, but every year we have craft night and I use larger pine cones to make little Christmas trees or just paint pretty and put sparkles on them. It's fun anyway.
- I took a class in pine baskets. It was lots of fun and hard on the hands, but they are beautiful when completed. I took a gourd class and used pineneedles around the top edge. They are really nice and easy to do.
- don`t burn them the bears need them when they go into the woods lol
- We don't have any around here close by, but when I get them I put scented oil on them and burn them like a candle. I also spray them for decoration. I have made mini Christmas trees with them. We have even used the needles for various things as well. Pine smells so good, I think they do anyway.
