I have a Terra cotta outdoor fireplace that has cracks starting to develop. What is the best way to repair them

We use the fireplace so our repair job must withstand heat.

  1. plaster of paris or clay .
  2. The cracks add character.
  3. Masking them will probably look worse than the crack's. It's important to moniter the size of your fire. Generally, too hot of a fire is what causes the cracks. Metal strapping would keep it secure but will but will look bad. Just use it as is and keep the fire low.
  4. There is a fire retardant chalk you can purchase at home depot or lowes. It's between $15-20 per tube. Also it is a red color to match the terra cotta, or you can replace the tiles.
