I just installed an outdoor wood burning fireplace and last night I had my first fire. Instead of using wood, I used a duraflame log which burned nicely for a while but after a couple hours (and a little poking to get the fire going) it started to smoke rather badly. As a result, the marble on front of the fireplace has been stained by the smoke of the duraflame and I'm having a real hard time removing it. Is there a product or procedure that someone can recommend to remove the smoke damage? I've been told that the duraflame logs are basically made from a waxy substance and that the smoke damage caused by one of these "logs" is a little different than smoke damage caused by burning wood. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
