Fire Pit - Outdoor Fireplace Question?
I am looking at buying an outdoor fireplace. Is it safe to use it on the grass? And should I but sand or something in prior to the wood to help absorb the heat? Arctic Lawn & Garden Outdoor Fireplace

- WE HAVA HAD A FIRE PIT FOR OVER TEN YEARS NOW AND WE HAVE OURS RAISED ABOUT 6 INCHES OFF THE GROUND AND HACE A SAND HILL UNDERNEATH OF IT. IT CIRCULTAES THERE AND THER IS LESS ASH
- It is safe to use either a cement base or a sand one both protect the ground and absorb heat.
- I have one on a wood deck off my house. I got a sheet of metal flashing, about four feet by four feet at Home Depot, very cheap, and put it under so that no hot ash could fall through. I think in the yard, sand under would be fine. Enjoy!
- It depends on the type/brand of fire-pit you purchase. Our old fire-pit used to get soooo hot it would burn the grass underneath. We moved it to a brick-paver patio, and by the end of the summer, the heat underneath had begun to cause the bricks on the patio to crack. So, this spring, I purchased a new one at our local Menards that has the type of finish like on the inside of your oven...and it doesn't burn the grass below at all. It barely even gets warm on the underside; so we've had it on our patio all summer. I'm not sure of the brand, but, it's a square type that has 4 screened sides, all of which open to add wood. I love it, and highly recommend it if you're looking for a fire-pit that won't trash your lawn or patio! HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!!
- Hello, Typically, when someone describes and outdoor fireplace, they refer to something that includes brick or masonry and is not readily portable. However, it seems like you are talking about portable fire pits. http://www.fireplacesmagazine.com/outdoor-fireplaces/fire-pits.html http://www.fireplacesmagazine.com/outdoor-fireplaces/outdoor-fire-pits.html There are several different types of fire pits and some made out of different materials. Additionally, some are more raised off of the ground than others. The ones that are made of steel or have a thick bottom that is protects the surface that it sits on will be more suitable. Other fire pits will burn your grass. Here are a few fire pit types: http://www.firepitshop.com
- try argos!!!
