  1. You have to buy a new one, the gels burns way too hot for woodburning stoves. It may actually met through the bottom.
  2. If you're looking at one of those gel log sets for the fireplace, those just burn those canisters of gel alcohol, which burns relatively cool, so you should just be able to use it in the fireplace. Otherwise, I'm not really sure what you're talking about.
