- Ventless gas logs can be dangerous when operated INSIDE a house. They give off emissions and vapor. You will notice a lot of moisture on your windows and walls. Eventually your walls will start to yellow. Ventless products are okay if installed in a garage or outbuilding. The reason is those buildings are not as tight as a house. If anyone in the house has respiratory problems or you have yojung children, please do not use them. Manufacturers now place warning labels on the instruction sheets. MOST retail shops htat sell them do not inform you about the issues.. If you wish to add additional heat to your room, consider having a "Sealed Vented Gas Fireplace INSERT installed". They can run on propane, are nearly 80% efficient and SAFE. They can be vented up your chimney.
- The other answer is right on. How about an electric insert? They just plug in. They have heaters and a really realistic looking flame. I use mine all year "round; even in July after a hard days work in the garden.
