How do I light ventless fireplace without electricity?

I lost the manual, my set up has a spring loaded black nob that I turn counter clockwise once I hear the his of gas I push the igniter several times and the pilot comes on. I know i`m to release the nob and the main burner should light or does the main burner light before the nob is released? can anyone tell me the correct order this should happen. when I release the nob the pilot goes out.

1. On my unit, you have to turn the knob to the pilot position and keep it depressed. Sometimes it takes a while before the air gets out of the line and the gas gets there, so I just hit the igniter button periodically. Once it ignites, keep the button depressed for several seconds and then let off of the knob. If it stays lit then you can turn the knob to the on position. If not, lit the pilot again until it stays lit. My unit has another switch that I then turn on that ignites the burners. I hope that this helps.
