I have a ventless fireplace by desa, I am experiencing a black film on walls and window. Does anyone know why?
When cleaning my windows I started noticing a black film, On my fans and on some walls. I believe it came from my ventless fireplace. I am nervous that something is wrong or that it needs to be serviced ???

- You have a leak problem either in your door or in the back where it is screwed together. I would bet it's the seal around the door. You can buy new seal and it is relativly cheap and replace it yourself.
- Be sure that the logs are still installed properly. The vent less fireplaces are usually designed not to have the flame touching the logs. When they do you will get incomplete combustion which will cause soot and possibly carbon monoxide. Also if you have a smoker in the home this will also cause discoloration of the walls and such. Look in your owners manual and it will recommend that a window or fresh air source be open during operation. The other item to check would be the air intake vent for the burner. If its clogged with dust then it needs to be cleaned out. Usually you can blow it out or use a vacuum hose.
