Fireplace ventless?
i have a ventless fireplace. everything works pilot etc. however the fireplace will burn for about 3-4 minutes then die out. you can restart or leave on and it will come back on, then die out again. all other gas appliances in the house are ok so it is not a gas line problem, air etc. any thoughts. thanks.

- Sounds like some sort of line constriction or blockage problem (inside the fireplace), but then again I don't know that much about gas appliances. I would strongly recommend that you have a professional repair-person come out....gas appliances are nothing to fool with when it comes to them malfunctioning. Good luck.
- Could be the nozzle in the fireplace is clogged or dirty. They do need to be checked and cleaned yearly by a professional. I suggest you get a professional in to look at it.
- I had the same problem several years ago and it had nothing to do with the gas line. The bottom of the fireplace has a access panel in front that you can pull down. Inside is all the workings and if you look in there you will see some wires connected to a relay. I would see if all those wires have good clean and tight connections. Mine didn't and after I tightened them down it has worked great since. Good Luck!
- Has this fireplace worked in the past or it this always been a problem? These vent free appliances are setup so if the oxygen content of the air drops below a certain point they go out. If you live in an area where the elevation is high they tend to have problems staying lit or even working at all. Obviously if it just started doing this, it is not the problem. It could also be that dust has clogged the unit and it just needs a good cleaning. Dust can cause the fuel air ratio to get messed up so it will turn off.
- Sherry the fix is an easy one. Your oxygen depletion chamber is dusty. Over the warmer months the pilot gets dusty. All you have to do is clean out the pilot safety. The ODS system requires a chamber mounted behind the pilot with a flap on it. as the air gets thinner the flame gets smaller and shuts down the heater to prevent asphyxiation and death. All that is needed is to get the dust and cobwebs out of the pilot. I use rust buster. It is a non-flammable liquid gold that will flush the pilot system of dust and debris and allow that pilot to be a strong pretty blue and work like it was meant to.
