Can a gas fireplace in a manufactured home be converted to a wood burning fireplace?

- Not easily or inexpensively. People that have innocently tried this usually ended up burning thier house down.
- i would call a fire place store in your area. they will be able to tell you how and you can get the stuff there probably. we have a wood one that we are putting in a home we are flipping that we want gas and the people we talked to were very helpful. best of luck
- Ooooh. Maybe not. Here's a site with some discussion about the reverse procedure: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/firepl/msg0920073632135.html You might contact the company that made your home as well as talk to people who sell wood fireplace inserts. Many places have laws regarding wood fireplaces that you also need to take into consideration.
- No, the chimney is too small.
- Even if someone told me it could, I wouldn't. A manufactured home can burn to the ground in 3 minutes flat.
- It would be very dangerous to convert it over - you'd have to replace it with an actual wood burning fireplace. The reason is that gas will burn at an even temp, while wood burns at different temps, often much hotter than gas; not to mention the fact that as the creosote builds up in the chimney flue, which can quickly build up and ignite and cause a chimney fire. (Many times in manufactured homes, the gas fireplace flue is much smaller than woodburning ones do). If you were changing a wood burning fireplace to a gas one, then you could do it without completely replacing it, but to be safe in your case, I'd either leave it alone, or I'd change it to propane, which can be done by switching the gas jets out.
- I am in the industry, and the manufacturer we deal with only sells wood burners. We convert them to gas for the customer. Contact the manufacturer. I have a hunch it was wood to begin with. If this is the case, you're all set.
