Fireplaces?
We now have a wood burning fireplace and are considering changing to propane, (just for convenience), but would we be disappointed and miss the ambience and smell and crackling of the wood?

- I sure would. I even have a fireplace in my bedroom.
- I don't know about you, but I sure would! I love a wood burning fireplace and can't imagine a winter night without one. In fact I love it so much that I would never own a home without one.
- Checkout the newer high-end gas fireplaces, they crackle, but don't smell. Ultimately, you'll have to decide if you prefer the convenience of gas over the rustic charm of real wood. P.S. gas is more economical.
- We had wood and had to switch. Our daughter was allergic to the wood smoke. I do miss the smell of the wood. I do not miss the mess from the wood or having to cut wood. They do make some beautiful log look propane fireplaces. They are gorgeous. So if convenience fits into your lifestyle I would change.
- wood is still much more cheap to burn than gas. if you live in a big city wood cost a little more to buy , but if you cut it yourself you have the time of doing so but not much cost. i would suggest going to a sawmill and asking for scraps. they pretty much give away this stuff for little or no cost. i heat with nothing but wood in my house and will do so as long as my back can handle it.i heat my house from november to late april for a bout 300$. most people that buy "pretty wood" are funny to me. as long as it burns well what difference does it make what it looks like as long as its good wood. you could also consider a pellet stove or a corn cob stove, these have a much higher btu rating than a normal wood stove and you still get the warmness of a wood stove. i freeze whenever i go to someone elses house with gas even though i know its the same temp in the house
