My husband flushed a dead mouse down the toilet and just before that we had our bathroom plumbed and a septic?
cont...tank installed. We have had a terrible dead rat smell ever since. It seems to come from our bathtub drain and jets and toilet as well. What could it be? We need help.

- . . . perhaps it's time for your husband to cut back on the beer and curries . . .
- I would call a good plumber to check this problem out.. better safe then sorry... Specially when it comes to drinking water...
- Did they vent the system ?if not its going to smell
- I doubt your smelling dead rat. Flushing is how most people get rid of a dead mouse. Better check to see if that septic system is working properly.
- What you want to bet that the mouse is stuck somewhere in the septic system? I would put an enzyme down the toilet like Rid-X and see if you can dissolve the blockage. It may take a while.
- Yeah,...ask a professional. Maybe the tail of the dead rat got stucked somewhere.
- Water traps are used to prevent sewer gases from coming back up into the home.Like the " P-trap / S-trap under your kitchen/bathroom sink. Your bathtub will have one underneath it also. The trap always holds some water in it to block fumes coming backwards from the septic tank/sewer system. The toilet has a "automatic" water trap built in=so I would"nt suspect this off-hand. Are you sure that proper water traps were installed in your drain line? If you are certain about this=then I would suspect your "venting" in your septic tank is not working properly==could be blocked causing a back pressure in your drain line and "pushing" sewer gases back up through the water traps. The lowest point being the tub.
- I bet you the dead animal is stuck in the trap, that is the pipe that looks like U. the bottom the the U hold water to keep the sewer smells from coming back in your home. I would be a smart ass and tell my husband to fix it or get a plumber. that really was not very smart to flush a mouse in the stool. Next time put it in the trash, or in a baggy then in the trash.
