Plumbing. My bathroom sink has started fillng with water when I empty the bath. How do I cure it?

1. This happened to me. The bath water also started coming up the loo after a while, which was grim. Turned out it was because my landlord is a miserable git who had got some cowboy to do the plumbing on the cheap. You need to call a plumber ASAP.
2. This means that pipes are blocked by something; call a plumber a.s.a.p. otherwise you'll get this all the times when you'll empty the bath. For the moment, empty it slowly in order to allow the water to drain.
3. Check your vent on the roof and make certain that it is clear of bird nest or anything that will stop it from having equal pressure. I suggest that you go outside to the clean out plug and run a rooter through the pipes insuring that they are clear. You have a bad clog that is causing the water to stand instead of drain. Remove the P trap from underneath your sink and make certain that it is clear. Run a rooter from underneath your sink going outwards. Between the three steps that I have provided you with you will unclog the blockage.
4. sounds like a Main line plug up or problem. You can try a bottle of main line cleaner from the local hardware store. it gives you instructions on how to treat this problem. If this does not do the trick you will likely need to call a service such as roto rooter or other company to ensure that the main lines to the road or septic system are clear. Also, it could be the line from the bathroom to the main line is semi plugged up. In that case a plunger and a spare hand or 2-3 *to hold towels or rags over the other drains in the tub, sink, etc* and plunging the line may clear it. I will tell you if you can clear it yourself by either chemical cleaner or a plunger you are way ahead of a service doing it. NOTE: DO NOT PLUNGER AFTER USING CHEMICAL. try the plunger first or risk injury to yourself and others assisting you. Good luck, you'll need it.

6. Sounds like the drain pipe for the tub is plugged. The water is backing up to the sink and than slowly draining. Also the vent pipe might be blocked causing the water to drain slow. What you need to do is get a snake or rotor rooter and unplug the drains.
7. The water in your tub is lower than your sink. If you can get water to run up hill, you should take out a patent on it. You could get rich.
8. I'm sorry but that is not possible ..as the plughole in a normal sink is above the water line in a normal bath .. check with a tape measure !
9. The cure is to have a seperate waste pipe for your bath and bathroom sink. Yours are both on the same waste pipe, and the person who installed it has fitted an equal to instead of a swept tee, and you know what the result of that is. Seperate waste pipes is the cure.

11. You have a plug in the drain pipe. The wieght of the bath water is enough to push water into your sink. You need the drain rootered. Get a pro plumber or buy a drain snake for about 50 bucks. There should be an access to your drain somewhere outside or in a basement (if you have one). It looks like a big screw. If you can't find the access plug you may have to go through the tub drain. The plug could be anywhere from just inside the tub drain all the way out to where your drain meets the main pipes, usually out by the street. If you aren't a handy person, get a pro like roto rooter.
