Can the average person repair or replace bathroom plumbing with do it yourself books?

  1. Depends on which plumbing. Most plumbing is relatively simple, once you look at it. If you're talking about something behind the wall (shower pipes, etc) then you have to get into the rebuilding of the wall, also So yes, I guess. I have done simple repairs myself.
  2. I did...I even learned to soder a few copper pipes. I removed everything out of my bathroom. If you have the old stuff should be easy. The local hardware store can help you replace the pieces..and even help with upgrades. Everything comes with instruction manuals. Hint...Do dry runs first before you glue anything.
  3. Plumbing is learned! Anyone with some patience can learn to perform plumbing projects. Changing faucets, toilets, etc., are relatively simple, it's just knowing what to do, and what type of tools and materials are required, in order for a complete and satisfactory job to be performed. Since the introduction of plastic pipes, plumbing is even easier today, than it was just 30 years ago. Advances in technology, benefit everyone, not just the plumber. There are some excellent DIY books available. The problem is, most people read just enough to do the particular task, that they want to perform, and don't read the whole book, thinking they don't need all the extra info. Even as a plumber, I still learn new things, on a daily basis. Closing your mind to new ideas, will cost you in the long run. Good luck!
  4. Absolutely yes you can girl. Matter of fact sometimes doin it yourself gives you better results than an overpriced plumber. They basically get paid for doing the things people don't WANT to do not the things people CAN'T do. They make money off of folks who refuse to put their hands into the toilet and get a little dirty. As long as you know what needs to be fixed and you aren't too squeamish you should be able to get the plumbing up and running again. Good luck~
  5. If you are handy at all you should be able to. You learn by doing.
