How much could it possibly cost to replace the plumbing in a 1k square foot house?

It's not that big of a house. The previous owner's stripped the copper piping from under the house. (that's another side question.. isn't copper only found in older houses?) I have some friends in this business that will work for $10/hr to get the work done. But how long could it possibly take? I can finance all the supplies that will be needed.. just the labor is starting to freighten me. It has 1 bathroom.

  1. Well, its not really the size of the house... its the amount of plumbing in your house, and how "easy" it is... some homes are a pain, and others are easy. Copper pipes can be used even in newer homes... but its more expensive. IMO, copper pipes are better (as long as they are not in a concrete slab) Anyway, it should cost less then 2 grand.
  2. No, Copper is a material used on newer houses. Old houses have Galvanized plumbing. A licensed plumber would be doing you a favor by charging $1,200.00 to do the replacement. I had a guy (not the plumber) come do mine and he was done in about 4 hours for $385.00. I'd use PVC material, but that's just me. It's cheaper than copper and is useless to thieves. Good luck!
  3. Get a quote from your "friends in the business". They should have some idea just how long it will take them to do the job. You really have to see exactly what needs to be done to figure out how long it will take.
  4. I would use PVC redue plumbing...it is cheaper and easier to replace in the future. Get a quote from the plumber. He should be able to round it off to around how long it will take.
