What happens if I ignore a plumbing problem (leaking shower pipe on second floor dripping to ceiling below)?
I'm catching water with a bucket and emptying it, but I think bad things are happening inside the walls. This is going to be expensive, I know, but how long do I have before it is irreversible?

- Fix it now or you'll be sorry later.
- eventually it will ruin the ceiling and anything else (walls ect) that the water is leaking on. If you dont fix it dont be suprised if one day soon you come home to the ceiling caved in
- Waater damage is more what you don't see than what you do see and it can become a very major wall, floor and ceiling repair.....might already be too late....do something today!
- Yeah you should fix that problem immediately... If you don't not only will it be expensive but the constant dripping through the ceiling will make the ceiling weak and will eventually fall through.
- Once the mold has spread to all the nooks and crannies , you`ll never get rid of it without tearing down the house and rebuilding . That`s considering the house doesn`t collapse on it`s own in the first place when the ceiling caves in .
- it's irreversible now, that damage that's been done up to now can't be changed.Call a plumber and get that leak fixed pronto.
- Dont wait to have this plumbing problem repaired. It will only end up costing you more, the longer you wait. Things are going on inside the walls and you dont need a mold problem. It may not end up being as expensive as you think. Get some estimates....they are free! It may be as simple as making a hole in the ceiling and soldering a leaky pipe. It's like waiting to take care of a bad tooth. What could have been fixed with a filling , is now going to take surgery .
- My sister had a similiar problem with a leaky commode. When she had it fixed, she not only had a leak spot on the ceiling downstairs, but the blown ceiling has come loose and is now sagging down. She is going to have to have her kitchen and dining room ceilings re-blown because they connect without a break. Call that plumber ASAP! Water damage repair is expensive, but the longer you let it go, the more expensive it becomes~
- Lots of drywall damage and mold in places you can get to without ripping out everything. you better off just nipping the problem in the bud now and save yourself the headache.
- Well here's the answer to your question me being a plumber If the leak is in the wall via the water supply to the shower valve. It will begin to mold and rot the wall then the bottom plate of the wall down to the ceiling of the first floor were the sheet rock will absorb the water to were it will eventually fall from the ceiling. tend to it now stop the leak could it be the shower drain leaking???
- your ceiling will eventualy collapse and the water can seep into the electrics and cause more problems
