Plumbing-The shower is off but water is still dripping. How do you fix that? Do you need a new control?

It is a single unit fixture for hot and cold, on and off. Need to know if the fixture needs replacing or if you can just replace a part or washer or something.

  1. Sometimes you can get away with replacing the internal springs and valve body, but it is just a temporary fix. When that happens, it is just the unit going bad and it will eventually need an entire replacement.
  2. I had this problem recently. I found the water pressure had risen above normal due to a problem in the water pressure regulator. I replaced the regulator and found it solved my problem. you might also try to reduce the water pressure coming into the house by adjusting the regulator. good luck
  3. There may be a ball with a stem under the control. there are 2 rubber pieces with springs behind them. replace the rubber parts and all is well.
  4. First try unscrewing the shower head itself. Water may be pooling in the shower head and gradually leaking out. Clean the shower head well. There may be a mineral deposit buildup etc.
  5. Needs new cartridge. You can also replace just a washer but a new cartridge will cost about 7 - 10 $. I recommend new cartridge.
