In plumbing which is better, compression fittings or solder fittings?
To be used with a freeze proof hose bib.

- either one will work, however using a compression fitting might be the way to go just in case you ever have to replace the hose bib.
- solder is better no chance for leaks
- If your talking about the wall plate elbow that screws to the wall and then you screw the Bibtap into it, how about a copper and brass (Cuprofit) push fit one £3.49 from screwfix.com ref.no.11663-81. As for other joints keep those outside to a minimum generally solder joints are best if made well as they don't work loose, can't be over tightened and look neater.Hope this is of some help.
- SOLDER IS BEST BUT MORE DIFFICULT TO DO.
- Soldier is best, only if you know how to do it right.
- solder is best.... of course u wont burn down the house from tightening a compression fitting
- if your not used to soldering don't try it on a bib, you can very easily heat it too much and ruin the seals inside it. So the answer would be compression if your not a contractor like some of us.
- No doubt compression. Error proof.
- soldering is the better way to plumb a house, a compression fitting is a mechanical fitting and sooner or later it will devolp a leak....
